Show Urge Sewers For City of Gunnison The first steps towards the installation installa-tion of a sewer system and the needs of a drainage system throughout Gunnison was discussed widely at the regular meeting of the city council last Saturday evening. F. N. Huddle-son, Huddle-son, consulting engineer and who has had a large experience in the installation installa-tion of sewerage systems throughout Utah and the west, was before the council and gave an interesting talk why the city should install a system here. Mr. Huddleson spoke of the advantages ad-vantages of a sewer system, and he pointed out the minimum cost that would be entailed, making the burden bur-den light bn those who would come within a district should one be installed. in-stalled. Mr. Huddleson made an encouraging en-couraging proposition and the matter mat-ter is being considered by the members mem-bers of the council. The engineer stated that his company would make i the preliminary surveys, care for the legal end, make the tests for depths, and If tho taxpayers then declined to accept the proposition, no cost would be entailed to the city or taxpayers, j The situation from a health standpoint stand-point in Gunnison is anything but good, with the deplorable state that arises from the cesspools. They are constantly filling up, and with the usual us-ual high waters and during the irrigating irri-gating period, the improvised sewers prove a big menace to health. And, too, during the spring season cellars and basements are filled with the surplus sur-plus waters that do not seep away and this not only results in damage but also proves a health menace. Messrs. Overfelt and Sorenson, members of the city council, were named by Mayor Jones to go further into the matter and get the sentiment of the citizens and taxpayers regarding regard-ing the installation of a sewer system. |
