Show Distillers Are Given Bad Scare J. C. Carlston, deputy sheriff, came in from Manti last Friday evening, and he came in unannounced. His presence, however, was soon discovered discov-ered and it is reported that "moonshine," "moon-shine," home-brew and other liquid refreshments in course of fermentation fermenta-tion was turned loose in many quarters. quar-ters. This, it is said, is the cause of J the swollen streams and overflowing irrigation ditches the following morning. But no one was caught in the drag net. Deputy Carlston, however, how-ever, stated that he had heard it noised about that there was "plenty doing" in the way of making strong refreshment drinks and that he would keep his detective eye open for 'those who are actively engaged in the business. Not alone was Sheriff Carlston here to curtail "bootlegging," but the sheriff forces will be used in forcing the curtailment and spread of the "white top," the destructive weed. Fortunately in tho immediate vicinity vicin-ity of Gunnison there is but very little lit-tle of the weed, and where it shows it is being destroyed and all are cooperating co-operating with the county farm bureau bu-reau in eradicating the destructive weed. i Another matter that is being taken up through the sheriff's office is the rounding up of delinquents on auto licenses. There are a number yet in this section, so it is reported, who have not secured their 1921 licenses. These are to be located and they "will be told about it." |
