Show PA PEP, PRODUCTION RESTRICTED Wages in the paper industry are slowly following the cost of living downward from a war basis. Production in papermills has been tremendously reduced by strikes in that industry during 1921. For April and May 59 mills show employment reduced 12.5 per cent and reductions in wages of 17.3 per cent varying from 15 per cent to 20 per cent in different mills. More than half the paper mills are conducted on the open shop plan, while all the mills shut down on account ac-count of strikes are closed shop union mills. |
