Senator Ladd introduced a concurrent resolution of the North Dakota legislature authorizing and in- j strutting its congressional delegation j to use all honorable means to this end. The resolution sets forth amoug other things : There Is in Billings county, near Medora, a wonderful petrified forest, consisting of thousands of petrified stumps ranging In size up to 8 and 10 feet high and as much as 14 feet in diameter. The surrounding country is a won-derful won-derful and picturesque section of Bad Lauds along the Little Missouri river, being a distinct type of country, very Interesting and alluring to tourists and sightseers, and of great scientific value. There are groves of pines anil quaking quak-ing aspens which are found almost nowhere else within tlm state of North Dakota. President Theodore Roosevelt loved this country and made It his home, and his cattle ranged over every section of this country while he was engaged in the stock business. A large part Is only accessible with saddle horses. Due to this fact the scenic and scientific wonders of this region are almost wholly unknown except ex-cept locally. There are artesian wells and natural wells and natural fresh-water springs at various points on this tract, which make possible the most delightful and idiial camping grounds. |
