Show Christmas Money For Beet Growers With the distribution of nearly $70,000 by the Gunnison Valley Sugar Su-gar company to the beet growers vof this valley, the first of this week, Christmas time will be doubly happy for the fortunate ones who were lucky enough to have raised beets during the past season. The checks were received here last Saturday and were paid out by the banks of this city and at Centerfield. With this settlement, set-tlement, advanced by the sugar company com-pany several days ahead of schedule time, nearly $275,000 has been distributed dis-tributed among the farmers and beet growers of the valley. Information from the factory office of-fice is to the effect that the factory is maintaining a creditable record and an average of approximately 550 tons of beets are being sliced every day. On several occasions this record has been exceeded for a single day's run and as much as 650 tons have been put through in twenty-four hours. Not only is the factory doing splendidly splen-didly but the sugar yield is far ahead of any previous years, showing that the valley is ideal for the producing of beets yielding a high percentage of sugar. If nothing unforeseen happens to cause delays the campaign will be completed and all slicing finished by the 10th of January. There are several sev-eral hundred tons of beets yet to be transported to the factory but the fleet of trucks, together with several teams ,are rushing the work and fortunately for-tunately ideal weather prevails .for this purpose. |
