Senator Ernest Bamberger, nominated last, Friday for United States Senator, is the Republican National Committeeman Committee-man for Utah. He is a native of the state and has long been identified with the development of its natural resources and industries. Mr. Bamberger was born in Salt Lake City August 11,1877, forty-five years ago, the son of J. E. Bamberger Bamber-ger and Bertha Bamberger. He obtained ob-tained his schooling in the jiublic schools of Salt Lake City and later attended Williams college and Columbia Colum-bia university. He was married in 1904 to Eleanor Dooly, the daughter of the late John E. Dooly, who was long identified with the upbuilding of the state. Since 1900 he has devoted all of his time to the development of Utah. He has extensive land, livestock and mining holdings. During the late war, Mr. Bamber ger volunteered his services. He first served as head of the chemical division di-vision and later as chief of the materials ma-terials department of the Aircraft Production Board for the United States and Allies. When the present administration was formed, Mr. Bamberger was offered of-fered the first assistant secretaryship of the United States treasury and the same position in the postoffice department. de-partment. He was recently appointed appoint-ed a member of the Federal War Finance Fi-nance board of the Agricultural Loan Agency of Utah, a position which he jtiil holds. For the last ten years he has been a member of the Board of Regents of the University of Utah and is now chairman of the executive board and vice-chairman of that body. He is a member of the Alta, University Univer-sity and Elks clubs and is identified with various charity organizations and movements. |
