Show No Place for a Washington. Dr. R. J. Campbell, the EngllsD Christian-Socialist, -was condemning, at a luncheon in Philadelphia, a certain cer-tain type of modem business man. "This type of man," he said, "is precisely pre-cisely opposite to George Washington. Washing-ton. Washington got on by telling the truth. This man gets on by. lying. "It reminds me of a story. "A very successful business man ! took his son into his employ, and the youth, after a few days' work, entered en-tered his father's office and said disconsolately: dis-consolately: ' 'Dad, I'm afraid I shan't make good here. You see, I'm not use4 to lying.' "But the father laughed easily. " 'Oh,' he said, 'if you tell the truta In a place like this, everybodyll believe be-lieve you're lying, anyway.' " |
