We are reliably informed that three lightning rod men have recently succeeded in bilking several sev-eral farmers in northern Box Elder El-der and Malad Valley. This is their mode uf procedure: One man goes ahead and agrees with a farmer far-mer to put up the rods complete for only $13, the amount to be paid in six months or two years. Of course the rod man wants some sort of an agreement on paper. The credulous farmer signs the note without reading read-ing the small print. In a short time two other men come along and put up the rod. Then the farmer far-mer probably oilers to pay the Ifl.'S down. They look surprised, saying say-ing there must be some mistake and figure out a bill of 100 to $200. The confident farmer bunts up the duplicate of the paper he signed for rod man Xo. 1, and to his surprise and disconiliture, finds on it, in tine type, the prices for the work, which may total MOO to $200. The poor farmer, anxious to avoid urther trouble and litigation, probably compromises compro-mises by paying $50 to $75 for the work the first agent agreed to do for $1H. The Cache Valley people should be put on their guard against such nen, as we are told that locality will be next worked by them. The public generally should be warned against all such characters. |
