Show Salt Lake City Artist Brings Class to Area ESALANTE Prominent Salt Lake City artist Earl Jones spent several days in the Escalante area over the weekend with 13 members of this private art workshop to paint the unique scenery of the area. , The party also included Ken Baxter, long time friend of Jones and nationally known professional artist. Both men are known for their, paintings of the west : . Excursions by the group included a trip to the Escalante desert, the, Calf Creek recreation area and the painting of many scenes around the town of Escalante itself where rustic old barns and peaceful pastoral scenes provided subject matter for the group of accomplished artists. Some of the group had painted in the area before and found its scenery so spectacular that they', encouraged a trip as a workshop project. Because of the success of' the weekend's workshop, Jones plans to make the Escalante trip an annual event with his class. While in Escalante the group visited with prominent local artist Lynn Griffin whose paintings of the' west have also won acclaim. |
