Father of the nine year old was notified and he flew into Cedar City. He was shuttled to Panguitch to aid in the search for his son. A later report revealed the youths were picked up by a red compact pickup headed south which led law authorities to spread their search to Arizona where the two were finally located. Two Washington state juveniles had local law enforcement authorities scratching their hads for several days as they tried to piece together a puzzling puz-zling set of clues that could have added up to a serious set of circumstances. A 14 year old girl and her nine year old nephew were located in Phoenix sleeping on the lawn of a local school on August 31 after a full week of investigation. in-vestigation. The youthful pair had law enforcement en-forcement authorities of several states searching for their whereabouts after they fled Washington in her stepfather's step-father's stolen 1979 Dodge Omni. Local officers became involved after Dan Perkins reported on August 26 an abandoned wrecked vehicle hidden in the tall brush near his property 12 miles north of Panguitch adjacent to U.S. 89. Investigating officer Craig Twitchell discovered that the vehicle had obviously ob-viously collided with some form of livestock. It was subsequently discovered that it had collided with a horse near Circleville sometime in the late evening of Aug. 25 and that the two youngsters had driven the automobile several miles south on the highway, ditching it finally near the Perkins property. No identifying papers were found in the car but a license plate check proved it to be the stolen vehicle from Washington state. It was apparent from evidence at the scene that the occupants oc-cupants had remained near the vehicle for some time before leaving. Officer Twitchell, fearing foul-play, became concerned for the welfare of the juveniles when it became obvious that more than two people had been at the scene of the accident.
