Show Local Tax Shift In Utah is Expected Governor Scott Matheson has issued a declaration naming the 1st week in August as Motorycle Safety Awareness Week in Utah. In his declaration he pointed out that there are now 133,000 licensed motorcyclists and 63,000 registered motorcycles. This is a rapidly growing and popular form of transportation. But, accidents are also on the rise at an alarming rate. 44 motorcyclists were killed last year. The governor pointed out that motorcycle accidents account for the fastest growing segment of highways high-ways mishaps. Cyclists should wear helmets and heavy clothing, leave lights on at all times to be more visible to other motorists. Most severe accidents involve novice riders or those who are new to a particular motorcycle. Training can help. The other courses is conducted by the Utah Motorcycle Safety Institute, In-stitute, 4108 South 465 East, Murray, Utah, 84107 or call 261-9828. Summertime is the worst time for highway crashes especially on a motorcycle. All motorists to be on the look out for small vehicles such as motorcycles, mopeds, and bicycles and give the full right of way.
