Show Talent Will Highlight Evening When Miss Garfield is Chosen Outlet, Welcome Mart, Flying M Restaurant and Southern Utah State College. Tickets to the Pageant are $1.75 for adults and $5 per family. in the judging. Linda Wilson who graduated from BYU in fashion merchandising and design has also toured with the BYU Folkdancers. Talented not only in dance but also in music, she has participated par-ticipated actively in several beauty pageants as Regional Director of the Miss Utah Pageant, Director of the Miss Iron County Pageant, and a member of the Utah State Fair Queen Contest Committee. Lana Johnson, a Journalist who has written for "Mademoiselle", the Logan Herald and "Student Life" graduated form Utah State University with a degree in English. Prior to her present teaching assignment with the Iron County School District, she taught at South Sevier High School and for three years prior to that in the Orient. Her musical talent keeps her involved with a community orchestra and she serves as a hostess for the Shakespearean Festival at Southern Utah State College. She has assisted in the past with the Miss Iron County Pageant and other pageants throughout the state. Judge Kathy Mclntyre who chairs the popular Cedar City Music Arts Committee also works as a secretary at SUSC at the Student Center. She and her husband, Gary, have together judged several similar pageants in the southern Utah area. Enterprises, Little Indian Curio, Zions First National Bank, Garfield County News, Panguitch Chamber of Commerce, Bryce Lions Club, S&C Mercantile, Pat Lutes, Amway Distributor; Panguitch TROPIC An evening of talent will highlight the Miss Garfield County Scholarship Pageant Friday evening at Bryce Valley High School in Tropic. The program, starting promptly at 8 p.m., will feature popular entertainer Brad Hafen as master of ceremonies. The talented young vocalist, well-known well-known to the Southern Utah area, was selected as Outstanding Male Vocalist in Region Six, graduating only this past year from Dixie High School with honors. He has performed for the past three years as a member of "Spirit", a vocal pop rock group. When he attends Brigham Young University this fall he will perform with the University's highly acclaimed performing group, the "Young Ambassadors." At Dixie High School, he was awarded Outstanding Male Soloist and was First runner-up in the Sterling Scholar Program. He was also voted Mr. Music and was a recipient of the Silver, Gold, and Diamond "D". Hafen has his serious side too and will be majoring in computer science at BYU. Nine of Garfield County's loveliest girls will vie for the title of Miss Garfield Gar-field County. This year's contestants are Cherie Crosby, 17, Pangutich; LaCinda Frandsen, 18, Panguitch; Marilyn Ott, 17, Tropic; Brenda Lee Ramsey, 18, Tropic; Colleen Leland, 17, Escalante; Beverly Willis, 19, Henrieville; Patsy Willis, 19, Henrieville; Tammi Witt, 17, Can-nonville; Can-nonville; and Kathy Yardley, 17, Panguitch. Friday evening's activities will culminate a busy day for the contestants. con-testants. They will participate in swimsuit competition early in the afternoon, af-ternoon, after which each will have a five minute personal interview with the judges. The girls, along with Pageant committee members and judges, will enjoy a festive luncheon at Bryce Village before a brief break prior to the evening's final competition. At the evening program, the girls will begin by modeling sportswear before they are introduced to the audience. The judges will also be introduced; then each girl will have two-and-one-half minutes in which to display her special talent. Evening gown competition com-petition will take place next along with a song rendered by iast year's Miss Garfield County, Lesa Owens. The judges will select their first winner for the evening, Miss Congenialty, and make the Talent Award. Topping the activities will be the crowning of this year's Miss Garfield Gar-field County and her two attendants. Judges for this year's contest have been especially selected for their varied expertise. Jerald and Kathy Tolman hail from Ferron, Utah. Jerald is a professional artist specializing in fine portraits and calligraphy. He has directed and co-directed several musicals for high schools, community groups and church groups. He has also served as a judge at several beauty pageants in ;outhern Utah on prior occasions. He is a teacher of modern and folk dance at the high school level and was a member of the International Folk Dancers and Orchesis at Brigham Young University.
