Show Southwestern Garfield Under Fire Restraint The southwestern most area of Garfield County was included in portions por-tions of the Cedar City Ranger District of the Dixie National Forest places under fire restrictions this past week. Due to extreme fire conditions, Ranger Rollo Brunson announced the restrictions which became effective August 7. Under the restrictions, smoking and campfires are both prohibited in the general area between U-14 and Mammoth Creek and Tippets Valley and U.S. 89. Copies of the restriction order and map are available at the Cedar City and Panguitch Ranger Offices and the Duck Creek Field Station. The intensity and difficulty in controlling recent fires, combined with the long-range forecast of dry weather prompted the restricting order, Ranger Brunson said. Man caused fire, apparently caused by firewood cutters, are of particular concern. The Ranger urged firewood cutters to be extremely careful. Fire prevention efforts will be intensified in-tensified during this dry period, including in-cluding checking stations, field con- tacts, and law enforcement. i . A special fire pumper and crew has been detailed to the area from the Apache-Sitgreaves National Forest in Arizona to help in the prevention and suppression efforts. Ranger Brunson requested the full cooperation and concern of the Forest users, especially during this critical period. |
