Show Motorcycle Safety Urged by Governor4 Colonel Hobert J. Reid, superintendent of the Utah Highway Patrol, announced the implementation im-plementation of the department's motorcycle squad, effective July 24. Reid noted that UUP first used motorcycles in the late 1930's, but stopped after World War II. "With today's congested traffic flow, the need for again using motorcycles has become apparent," Reid said. The motorcycle squad will consist of five troopers, commanded by Sgt. Clark Bowles. He said the personnel assigned to motorcycles will atend a training progream in Phoenix for two weeks soon. Reid advised that the motorcycles will be used mainly on the urban interstate system since it will provide more flexibility in heavily congested traffic than patrol cars. The motorcycles also will be involved in selective enforcement programs throughout the slate. |
