Hospital Obtains New Ultra Sound Equipment PANGUITCH - Radiology Department Manager Brady Eyre, who oversees that division at Garfield Memorial Hospital and Clinics was proud to announce the acquisition by the facility of a new General Electric Logiq 5 Expert - Model 2003 Ultra Sound machine. The coup for Garfield Memorial came in its price, only $50,000. Originally the hospital had been quoted the sum of $125,000 for what was supposed sup-posed to be a "demo" machine. But because Intermountain Health Care decided to order this equipment in a large quantity quanti-ty for several facilities at one time, the price was reduced significantly. sig-nificantly. "This piece of equipment," Eyre noted in the interview, "is virtually brand new." The hospital hos-pital took delivery of the new ultra sound on May 15 and quickly put it into use. Eyre had a GE technician come on site at Garfield Memorial for two days of training train-ing and the technician will return in a month for any fol-lowup fol-lowup needed. This new ultra sound has 3D capabilities and is 3D recon-structable, recon-structable, which is a great adjunct to diagnosis. The unit too is Diacom compatible, meaning it can hook up to any laser imager or can telerad (transmit images) to anywhere via the internet. This unit boasts harmonic jmaging as well, which takes out the weaknesses and makes for a smoother image to read. It has jpeg capacity as well and you can also record on a VCR the actual ultra sound exam of the baby for the parents to take home with them. Currently all scans on the ultra sound are being sent to Hawaii to be read by a specialist there. Much of its use will be for obstetrics and gynecology, breast exams, abdomen, renal scans, vascular-related diagnosis diagno-sis (such as blood clots in the legs) and it has the capability of doing carotid artery scans as well. The equipment has the capability capa-bility of printing out full color photos about one 6 x 8 or four different angles or images on a 6 x 8 sheet. On all OB exams where they are trying to identify the sex of an unborn child, if clear identification cannot be made, the expectant mother can come back free of charge for a second reading. So far, Eyre has been 100 percent accurate in his diagnosis of the correct sex of each baby. G.E.'s number one machine is currently the Logiq 9 but this gnit can easily upgrade as necessary. |
