Show Report Wildlife Violations 24 Hour-a-Day On Hotline SALT LAKE CITY - People who observe possible wildlife violations are encouraged to report them to 1-800-662-DEER (3337), the Division of Wildlife Resources' 24 hour-a-day poaching hotline. "We encourage people to call in if they see anything unusual, whether they think it's a poaching or not," said Mike Fowlks, sergeant in the Division of Wildlife Resources' Salt Lake City office. "We'll check it out, to see whether it's a poaching," Fowlks said. People also are encouraged to report any type of possible wildlife violation they observe. "We're interested in anything that might be a wildlife violation," Fowlks said. Calls that shouldn't come to the line are injured wildlife, and other wildlife-related calls. These calls should be directed to a Division office. Twenty four calls were received on the poaching hotline Oct. 7 and 8, the first two days of Utah's general elk hunt. Fowlks said investigations into an over-limit of elk, and three moose poachings, resulted from calls received those days. "We really appreciate the people who call us," Fowlks said. "They're our eyes and ears and we need their help to effectively enforce Utah's wildlife laws." |
