Show By Marlene Haws 826-4859 marleneh color-country.net It was great to see all our friends and neighbors who congregated con-gregated for the Escalante LDS Stake Conference on the Nov. 13 and 14. Such a large crowd and such wonderful meetings! I was pleased and surprised, on Thursday of last week, to get a card and note from Gwen Lyman, who now lives in Bakersfield, Calif.. She never forgets her friends and connections connec-tions in Escalante. This time she especially mentioned the ladies who belong to the Daughters of the Utah Pioneers group here and said to tell them all "Hello." We should tell her that DUP. isn't quite the same without her... and the ladies she used to attend with. She says she still looks forward each week to getting get-ting the Garfield County News and to seeing what is going on in Escalante. Thanks, Gwen, we miss you! The Senior Citizen kitchen put out over 70 meals to senior citizens last Thursday evening. It was their Thanksgiving Dinner. Turkey and all the trimmings. trim-mings. MMMMM! The center will be closed now until Nov. 30. Christmas is coming early for Marlene Haws. Gerald Haycock has been here, from Sandy, doing a make-over job on one of her basement rooms. A long awaited project. Thanks Santa! And Gerald! Danny and Sherrie (Liston) Meisenbach are the new owners of the old home of Reese Roundy. Vardon and Clea Woolsey once owned it, the Matt Edwards family owned it, and the Meisenbach's recently purchased it from Clover Marks. Such a fun old house. Danny can hardly wait until he can retire and move back here for good! Eva Dean Liston went to Springville (I guess. Or Mapleton or Salt Lake. She has daughters living in all three places). She went with Cindy Steed. Cindy had to go for EMT meetings so it worked out just right for Eva Dean to be up there for Thanksgiving. Twila Mclnelly will be spending Thanksgiving with Kent and Phyllis Mclnelly in Hurricane. Kent and Phyllis just moved into their new home down there. Brent and Patrice Cottam are first time grandparents. Their daughter and son-in law, Shondelle and Reggie Gillins, Cedar City, are the parents of a 6 lbs. 14 oz baby boy. His name will be Davian. Congratulations to them! Great grandparents, who live in Escalante, are: Doyle and Thelma Cottam and Klyn and Marlene Haws. Vard Coombs, Boulder, read in the news last week that Klyn and Marlene Haws have a grandson, R. Klyn, who will be going to Des Moines, Iowa. He called Marlene to tell her that his son, Cade Coombs, is also in Des Moines and maybe he and Klyn will get together. Small world isn't it? Boyd Cottam quit his job in Las Vegas, Nev., and went back to work on an oil rig in Wyoming. His job is that of a driller. His family is living here in Escalante and he works a week and is home a week. Too bad he'll have to miss the bas-. ketball games every other week! Our Forest Ranger, Kevin Schulkoski, will be transferring to Cedar City right after the first of the year. We hate to see him go, but he says he will be commuting com-muting from there to here on weekends, so I guess we'll still see him around. Now for the "not so good news." Well, maybe it isn't all that bad. Everyone is on the road to recovery. Dale Lyman spent a few days in the Garfield Memorial Hospital in Panguitch. He is back home again. Deon Alvey took Trish Black (Dennis Lott's cousin) to the hospital one day last week. But by the time Deon was through with her business in Panguitch she was able to bring Trish back home again. Frank and Kathryn Coleman have been to St. George again for doctor appointments and are back home. That's what we older folks now call a "long day's journey." Maybe the Colemans stayed overnight with one of their daughters. Florence Alvey is recovering from a fall she took while on her way to conference last Sunday. Her neighbors have been good to check on her. Klyn Haws also took a fall off his front porch, but he must be as tough as he claims he is because he seems to be okay! We agree "old age isn't for sissies!" We were sorry to hear that Katie Thomas had taken a fall, making it necessary to undergo hip surgery. Get well soon, Katie! ) |
