Show . , i Commission Meets To Discuss Appeals Of Tax Assessments PANGUITCH All three commissioners Maloy Dodds, Clare Ramsay and Dell LeFevre, along with ClerkAuditor Camille Moore and Garfield County Attorney Wallace Lee were on hand for the twice monthly meeting of the Garfield . County Commission Monday, Sept. 24. The agenda was purposely left light so that the commissioners, commis-sioners, serving as the Board of Equalization, could work with citizens who had appeal reviews of their 2001 tax assessments. The minutes of the meeting show: Mammoth Creek Fire Department Ron Curd, John Terry and Robert Vaughn, representing the Mammoth Creek Homeowners Association appeared before the commission. Attorney Wallace Lee explained the process for forming a Special Service District for fire protection in the Mammoth Creek area. The first step is to file a Notice and Resolution to form a Special Service District for fire protection. They would like to advertise and have the, public hearing coincide with a Homeowners Association meeting meet-ing scheduled for May 25. A motion was made for Lee to proceed to prepare the notice to be published in AprilMay 2002. The hearing will be scheduled during the commission meeting, Tues. May 28, 2002. Public Works Garfield County Engineer Brian Bremner reported that the John's Valley Road Project had been completed. He updated the commission on other projects that the road crews were working work-ing on, but no details were contained con-tained in the minutes. Executive Session A motion was made to go into Executive Session to discuss personnel issues. Bryce Canyon Airport State Grant Pavement Rehabilitation Bryce Canyon Airport Manager Greg Pollock informed the commission that there are grant funds available through the state for rehabilitation of all the pavement at the airport. The county financial match would be about $10,000 in materials and labor. The project would include crack seal materials and labor,- fog seal and pavement marking. The matching funds could be included in the 2002 Municipal Building Authority Budget. Pollock asked permission to pursue having a small crack seal machine fabricated so that he and the other airport employee can work on the crack sealing this winter as time allows. A motion was made to proceed with that project and funds will be budgeted in 2002 for the rehab project. Water System Update There have been extensive repairs to the pumps and the well. The pump has been replaced and a new holding tank will be required to continue using the system. Pollock is compiling bids for a 1,500 to 2,000 gallon tank can be place in the pump house. A motion was made to authorize Pollock to proceed with the repairs to the water system. Terminal Public Pay Phone The company that is currently current-ly providing the pay phone is going to take the telephone out or is requiring a monthly fee of $75 from the county. Clerk Camille Moore will work with Pollock to find a viable option to provide local telephone service serv-ice at the airport terminal. Property Tax Abatement Approval Garfield County Treasurer Judy Henrie presented the Veterans, Circuit Breaker and '. Indigent Abatement requests for ; the commission's approval. All ; were approved except two indigent indi-gent abatements. Highway 12 and County Fair Update Garfield County Fair Chairman Bruce Fullmer presented pre-sented the commission with the awards the Garfield County booth received at this year's State Fair. There was discussion regarding the possibility of changing the date of the fair for next year. Fullmer gave the commission copies of the draft Highway 12 Scenic Byway Corridor Plan for their review. Fullmer asked the commission commis-sion to review the speed limit on River Lane road. He feels it should be 45 miles per hour. Board of Equalization The afternoon was spent in appeals over property tax assessments. 1 |
