Show Quilt Walk Festival Set For June 13 -15 PANGUITCH - Panguitch will present its annual Quilt Walk Festival, June 13-15. This year will feature a show of over 300 quilts from around the United States, as well as quilting and scrap-booking classes taught by expert instructors, a craft and heritage fair, cowboy action shoot, tours of historical homes, a scrumptious pancake breakfast and a theatrical presentation pres-entation of the Quilt Walk Story. Now in its 5th year, the Quilt Walk Festival is inspired by the settlement history of Panguitch. As the story goes, in the winter of 1864, seven men were chosen to leave the starving settlement in Panguitch and cross the mountains pass in search of food in Parowan. Before they reached the summit, they abandoned aban-doned their oxen in waist-deep snow. As they knelt to pray on a quilt, they soon realized that the quilt supported their weight and prevented them from sinking in the snow. The men laid quilt in front of them as they walked, then picked up the quilts behind and moved them to the front, "leap-frog" fashion, all the way to Parowan. This story came to be known as the Quilt Walk. The festival kicks off on Thursday, June 13 with a display dis-play of over 300 quilts from around the country and will be open throughout the festival. This will also be opening night of the theater which besides the show, includes dessert. Also on Thursday evening there are two free quiltingcrafting courses offered. On Friday, the Cowboy Action Shoot begins. There are quiltingcrafting classes during the morning and afternoon, with a free trunk show at lunch time.
