Show Vandals Shoot Insulators, Garkane Offers Reward RICHFIELD Garkane Energy Cooperative is offering a $2,500 reward for information leading to the arrest and conviction convic-tion of the individual or individuals individ-uals who shot 14 insulators on a high voltage power line near Boulder. Garkane crews replaced the vandalized insulators, located on the co-op's 69 kV transmission transmis-sion line near the Boulder Town Dump on Wednesday, May 29. By isolating the line section, crews were able to complete the repairs without causing any extended power outage. Garkane's Boulder Hydro Plant continued to serve the town of Boulder while repairs took place. "Shooting insulators is serious," seri-ous," said Carl Albrecht, Garkane's CEO. "It is not only an act of vandalism that costs Garkane members undue inconvenience incon-venience and money, but it also creates a very dangerous situation situa-tion for our employees. The insulators are there to help the system operate safely and efficiently, effi-ciently, and we have absolutely no tolerance for those who thoughtlessly put our people at risk." The broken insulators were found on a routine visual inspection. inspec-tion. While the line was still functioning, past experience has shown that the next significant moisture would have caused a fault, likely resulting in a long power outage. Albrecht encourages encour-ages anyone with information about this incident to contact Garkane at 1-800-747-5403 or call the Garfield County Sheriff's Department. |
