Escalante Runners Break State 1A Record In Track By Coach Monte Marshall ESCALANTE The Escalante boys and girls teams have been incredible this year. They both performed better at region track last weekend than ever before. Both boys and girls' teams have qualified individuals indi-viduals for the state championships champi-onships in nearly all events. The state track championships will be held this Friday and Saturday at BYU. Two events worth noting include a state record set by Seth Steed in the 800 Meter Run at the BYU Invitational Friday before last. Steed ran an unbelievable unbe-lievable time of 1:57.58, breaking break-ing the previous record by over a minute. He was interviewed by Reese Stein (Channel 2) that day, was named "Prep of the week". Steed also finished first in the 1600 and the 3200 meter runs that day. Another state record was set last Friday at the Region 15 track meet in Panguitch. Escalante's Medley Relay team ran a time of 3:42.26, breaking the previous state record of 3:42.77 set in 1996 by Dugway. Members of the record breaking team included: Josh Bacon, Lucas Schulkoski, Spencer Rex, and Seth Steed. We are extremely excited for state this weekend. Panguitch is picked to wiri. the meet on the boys side, while Wayne is favored to win the girl's. Escalante girls have an excellent chance at placing in the top 8 at state, and the boys are aiming for a second place trophy. That would be the first state trophy ever to be won by an Escalante track team. These guys want to be remembered. |
