Show 1 Area Obituaries Gerald Whittaker "Jerry" Cannon CIRCLEVILLE - Gerald Whittaker "Jerry" Cannon, 75, of Circleville, retired rancher and stockman, passed away Nov. 3, 2002 in Panguitch. He was born June 18, 1927 in Cedar City, Utah to Douglas Q. and Hazel Hannah Whittaker Cannon. He married Beverly Bean on Mar. 12, 1952 in the Salt Lake LDS Temple, and recently celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary. He loved to prospect and fly airplanes in his younger years. Jerry and Beverly owned property prop-erty on Cove Mountain where they enjoyed spending time with each other and their family. He was an active member of the LDS Church and enjoyed being an ordinance worker with his sweetheart in the St. George Temple for the past five years. He is survived by his wife Beverly of Circleville; children: ' Susan (Matthew) Garner of McKinney, Tex.; Cheri (Keith) Allred of Carson City, Nev.; Mark. (Ricki) Cannon of Circleville; LeAnn (Eric) Lofgran of Covington, Wash.; Carol (Jeff) Abbott of Pullman, Wash.; 21 grandchildren; and one great-grandson. He is preceded in death by his parents; stepmother, Edna Snow Cannon; brother, Robert Raymond Vernon Griffin RICHFIELD - Raymond Vernon Griffin, 58, of Richfield, returned home to his Heavenly Father Nov. 10, 2002, in Provo, from a sudden illness. He was born Sept. 24, 1944, in Richfield, to Vernon Roe and . Hazel Pratt Griffin. He married his sweetheart Marsha Bench, Feb. 21, 1969, in Las Vegas, Nev. The marriage was solemnized Nov. 12, 1978, in the Manti LDS Temple. Raymond retired from the Utah Department of Transportation (UDOT) after 30 years. He was a general contractor, contrac-tor, craftsman, shopkeeper and houndsman. He was a member of the Redview Riders and Richfield Elks Lodge. Raymond was a member of the LDS Church where he had served in the Elders Quorum presidency. He loved playing with his grandkids and spending time with his family He loved camping camp-ing and being in the mountains, especially Pine Lake and the B.oulder Mountain and enjoyed ST. GEORGE - June Dowdell Van Hemert, 76, passed away from a heart attack on Nov. 5, 2002, in St. George. She was born June 25, 1926, in Panguitch to John Errol and Nettie McEwen Dowdell. She married Stanley Liston in Panguitch on June 4, 1945. The marriage was later solemnized in the Manti Temple on Mar. 12, 195 1 . They were later divorced. She married Tony Van Hemert on June 24, 1967. June will always be known for her special outgoing person-'. person-'. . ality and friendly ways. Jerry Cannon Cannon, Sisters, Cathleen and Colleen Cannon. Funeral services were held on Friday, Nov. 8, 2002 in the Circleville 2nd LDS Ward Chapel with Bishop Rick Blackwell officiating. The family fam-ily prayer was offered by Carol Abbott and prelude and postlude music was played by Brenda Robinson. The invocation was offered by Susan Garner and Ricky Blackwell Neil Spendlove, Merrill Allen, and Cory Fuller sang, "Abide With Me, 'Tis Eventide," accompanied accompa-nied by Sheree Fullmer. A life sketch was given by Matthew Garner. Ryan Horton sang, "How Great Thou Art, accom- " Raymond Griffin going on horse-pack trips in the back country with his brother and friends. Raymond is survived by his wife, Marsha, Richfield; daughters, daugh-ters, Gina (Roger) Ogden, Aurora; Nikkie (Mike) Hart, Glenwood; three grandchildren: Kaili, Ikaika, Hakela; brothers and sisters: Marilyn (Richard) Brant, West Jordan; Carolyn (Calvin) Eyre, Richfield; Sharon (Robyn) Griffin, Monroe; Shona j j June Van Hemert loved serving the most were her family, and she was always there for them. They all knew of her great love, and are going to- panied by Charlene Dalton. Patriarch Stanley Dalton was a speaker and closing remarks were made by Bishop Rick Blackwell. Jeff Abbott sang, "A Poor Wayfaring Man Of Grief." The benediction was offered by Eric Lofgran. Pallbearers were Cole Cannon, Ty Cannon, George Garner, Garrett Garner, David Garner, Jake Allred, Ryan Allred, Jeffrey Allred, Alex Lofgran, Trevor Lofgran, Stefan Lofgran, Anders Lofgran, Christian Abbott, Brian Abbott, Ethan Abbott, and Hagen Horton. Honorary pallbearers were Mark B. Cannon, Keith Allred, Matthew Gamer, Eric Lofgran, Jeff Abbott, Ryan Horton, and the Circleville 2nd Ward High . Priest Group. Flower girls were Kristen Allred, Ashley Horton, Megan Allred, Jenny Garner, Annelise Lofgran, Kaitlin Abbott. Burial was in the Circleville Cemetery. The dedication of the grave was offered by Mark B. Cannon. Compassionate services were rendered by the Circleville LDS 2nd Ward Relief Society sisters. Funeral directors: Neal S. Magleby & Sons Mortuary, Richfield, Utah. Daniels, Richfield; Mable (Tom) Seegmiller, Richfield; and Alan Griffin, Escalante; mother-in-law, Grace Bench, Manti; brother-in-law: James Bench, Manti; sister-in-law, Reta Black, West Valley City; and his blood hound, Handsome. He was preceded in death by parents; brother, Richard Griffin; brothers-in-law, John Daniels and Franklin K. Miller; and father-in-law, George Bench. Funeral services will be held Thursday, Nov. 14, 2002, at 1 p.m. in the Richfield 4th, 7th and 9th LDS Ward Chapel, 159 N. 400 W. Friends may call at the Magleby Mortuary on Wednesday from 6 to 8 p.m. and at the ward chapel on Thursday from 1 1 :30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Burial will be in the Richfield City Cemetery with Rites by the Richfield Elks Lodge and military mili-tary rites by Utah National Guard Richfield Unit. Funeral directors: Neal S. Magleby & Sons Mortuary, Richfield. June Dowdell Van Hemert miss her sweet spirit. June was a wonderful cook and was always thinking of things to make to share with family, friends and neighbors. She1 is survived by her husband, hus-band, Tony: children Lana (Don) Lord, La Canada, Calif, Lois Houston, West Jordan, and Brad Liston, St. George; four grandchildren: Jeff Lord, Melissa (Travis) Pearce, Scott Houston and Jennifer Houston; two great-grandsons: Braden Lord and Tyler Trujillo; sisters: Donna Smith, Las Vegas, Nev., Lucille Tebbs, Bloomington and JoAnne (Karl) McCallister, Las Vegas, Nev.
