Those on the team during the 1998 season were; back row, left to right, Coach Pat Dix, Jaycen Walter, Jason Barney, David Veater, Austin Owens, David Henrie, Brett Sawyer, Chad Panguitch Bobcats Capture 1-A State Baseball Title In Orem By JohnYardley PANGUITCH Junior Brett Dalton slammed a bases loaded double dou-ble in the fourth inning of a scoreless score-less game to jump-start the Panguitch Pan-guitch Bobcats who went on to defeat de-feat Wendover 8 - 3 for the state championship in fall baseball last Saturday in Provo. The Bobcats, coached by Scott Hunt, Pat Dix, and Kay Englestead, got past Tintic, coached by former PHS standout Clint Barney, in. the semifinals 12-0 to advance to the final game. The only losses on the year for Panguitch were Green River, but the Bobcats got a huge favor from Wendover who tipped the Pirates 2-1 in the semis. There were lots of heros for Panguitch in the final two days, as well as during the season. Lefty David Henrie pitched the entire Bo shell, Coach Scott Hunt; middle row: Landon Fullmer, Acey Burningham, Clint Pollock, Brett Dalton, Dusty Orton, Bracken Englestead, Dusty Veater; front row: Cody Bremner, Chase Englestead, Mike Black, Adam Howard, Devon Englestead, Cassidy McCullougth, and Matt Black. game on Saturday and two innings on Friday to lead a fine pitching staff which also included Jason Barney, another lefty who pitched three innings in the semifinals and right-hander Dusty Orton. Henrie struck out 1 1 and only allowed one earned run the final game. He was named KUTV channel two's "Prep Athelete of the Week," for his performance. per-formance. Besides Dalton, who had three hits on the day, Jason Barney ripped a triple while Austin Owens, Jaycen-Walter, Jaycen-Walter, David Veater and freshman Acey Burningham also had some key hits. In the semifinal game against Tintic, Austin Owens, Dusty Orton, Or-ton, Jaycen Walter, Brett Dalton and freshman second baseman Devin Englestead all contributed with two hits each. The clinching of the 1-A title make the third time the Bobcats have won the state championship, but the first time since 1983 when they won back-to-back trophies. Coach Hunt called the championship champi-onship a "total team victory" including in-cluding the guys who did not play much, but who "came to practice every day and contributed in other ways" in a victory speech given at the PHS gym late Saturday night after the team was ushered into town by the fire engine and a long string of honking cars in a down-pouring down-pouring of rain.
