Show Escalante flaws By Marlene Haws 826-4859 Sorry there wasn't any Escalante News last week! I'm still trying to wear that flu shot out that I got last fall! Can't seem to come in contact with the right strain of flu for it to do it's job! Doyle Cottam was taken by life flight to the LDS Hospital in Salt Lake City where he had four bypass by-pass surgery on his heart. He is doing well and hopes to come home soon. Frank and Leslie Venuti went to California recently and while visiting visit-ing the LDS Temple, in Los Angeles, Ange-les, were able to visit with Melanie Cottam at the ' visitors center. Melanie is serving a mission there and is the daughter of Myron and Sannette Cottam. - Our condolences to Grace Barney, Wade and Shelly Barney, Ray and Lois Barney and Mac and Jo Barney who lost their daughter and sister, Carolyn Williams of Teasdale, in a motor vehicle accident. acci-dent. Condolences also to Carolyn's Caro-lyn's family, Kendal Williams, Carla and Jeff Coleman, Michelle and Greg Coleman, Joni and Nathan Richards and Chad Williams, all of Teasdale. Pat Woolsey was able to spend her birthday in a special way this year. She and husband Layne went to the LDS temple for their very first time on Saturday, then on Monday, they went back again and did work for Pat's mother and father and Pat and her older brother were sealed to them. Congratulations, Layne and Pat. We're happy for you. ! Quite a few members from the Escalante LDS 1st Ward were in St. George on Saturday for their Ward Temple Day. The Young Women went on that day, also, to do baptisms. bap-tisms. Congratulations to Jimmy and Rhonda Barney, who have a new baby boy! His name is Dylan Ray and he has three brothers who helped welcome him home. One more, Jimmy, and you'll have a basketball team all your own! Dylan's Dy-lan's grandparents are: Gerald and Carol Barney, Thell and Roxie Barney and Ruth Lay. Marlene Haws went to Salina and on to Provo with Jillyn Soren-sen Soren-sen and Brandon Haws, where Bran-.don Bran-.don had a heart catheter ablation . done to correct a heart arrhythmia. He bounced right back and it hasn't seemed to slow him down a lot. The next week, Marlene stayed with the Sorensen children, while Jon and Jillyn went on a cruise off the coast of California. Ben and Renee Porter arrived back in town on April Fool's Day. Mother Nature played an April Fool's joke on them 'cause they arrived in a snow storm. But Ben would probably say he is no fool -he knows where God's country is! Don and Ethel Haws and their two grandsons, Robert and Wesley Groth, came up from Killeen, Tex. for a few days while the boys were on spring break. Don will be back before long to start his summer garden. Major renovations are taking place at Cottams "66" Station. They even tore the little white house down that LaMur Chestnut built. The Barnsons are making progress on their RV Park, just west of town, and there is activity around the Frosty Shop, so it will probably be open before long. Phyllis Alvey, Donnie Randall and Elda Haws went to Salt Lake City to attend the funeral services for Hilda Barker. Hilda is the wife of Elvin Barker who is Elda's brother. Our condolences to that family. A group of senior citizens went to St. George to attend a Five County Senior Citizens meeting where Senator Orrin Hatch was the guest speaker. Being on Senator Hatch's aging board in this area, Deon Alvey had the privilege of introducing him to the group before he spoke. Those in attendance from here were: Deon, Melvin and Florence Flor-ence Alvey, Leah Griffin, Gene and Launa Perron, Rolaine Alvey, Ray and Lana Christian and Darlene Edmiston. They picked Ernie and Wynona Henderson up in Hen-rieville Hen-rieville and Ella Adair was there, from Tropic. Eight seniors attended from Panguitch. Melvin Alvey and Ella Adair both received awards for their untiring voluntary service with the senior citizen program. Gene Perron and Ernie Henderson helped with the driving and they all enjoyed their trip. Jim and Lola Alvey brought Eva Dean Liston home from Mapleton. Jim had Eva Dean's car up there getting it fixed, so he loaded it on his truck and hauled it home for her. Jim checked on his mom, Fay Alvey, and he and Lola went back home that same day. The Junior Prom was a big success. suc-cess. The Juniors all had fun eating out, dancing and keeping late hours! Their decorations were beautiful ard they got lots of pictures to keep in their books of remembrance. |
