Show Escalqntc flews By Marlene Haws 826-4859 A new list of burials at the Es-calante Es-calante Cemetery has just been completed by Lillian and Don Coleman and Cal Porter. Alicia Rechtsteiner typed it into an alphabetical alpha-betical list for her LDS Young Women in Excellence project. The list is posted at the cemetery and can soon be found on the internet at www.usgenweb.com. It will be the first cemetery in Garfield County to go on the nationwide cemetery index in-dex project. ' Jim and Shelley Olsen, St. George, spent Mother's Day weekend week-end here with Shelley's parents, Ben and Renee' Porter and grandfather, Blake Robinson. Neal Liston is in the hospital in Panguitch. Deon Alvey had surgery on her hand, in Panguitch, last Thursday. Marlene Haws went with her to drive her back home after the surgery. sur-gery. Scrib and Deanne Gillies, Panguitch, Pan-guitch, spent one day in Escalante visiting their daughters Lori Beebe and Kim Stewart. They were also getting acquainted with their new grandbaby who is the daughter of Kim and Sean Stewart. Arnold Alvey has been riding with a group from Montana, Colorado, Colo-rado, Wyoming, Idaho and Northern Utah. This group comes every year, for a week, just to ride their horses and enjoy the country. Included In-cluded in the group were Bud and Wanda Woolsey, Morgan; three children of former resident Billie Dean Barker Ellett, Bruce and Lin-ford Lin-ford Ellett, Wyoming and Dora Dean Ellett, Idaho. Eldon and Angie Griffin are in Billings, Mont., visiting with El-don's El-don's children. Misty Griffin has a new baby girl they will see for the first time. Her name is Kradee. She is the great-granddaughter of LaVern and Mary Griffin. Tyler and Marcie Griffin Krebs, Provo will go to Billings and so will Dallas Griffin, Phoenix, Ariz. They will all attend a school play the twins, Sarah and Susan, are in and will enjoy a nice family reunion. Elden and Angie will return by way of Yellowstone National Park. Congratulations to the students who ran for office at the Escalante High School last week. Running for Student Body President were: Russell Brooks, Jenifer Davis (Boulder), and Mike Wheeler; Vice President: Amanda Gait, David Munson and Derrik Shakespear: Secretary Sammi Barnson and Becky Crawford. Running, unopposed, unop-posed, for historian was Andrea Christensen. Next years officers will be: Russell Brooks, President: Amanda Gait, Vice President and Sammi Barnson, Secretary. Hazel Griffin hasn't had enough problems, she fell last week and broke her arm. So she is now sporting a cast. Maybe we should all stop by and autograph it for her! Hey, Folks, it's "E" Day! The E on the East hill will be whitewashed white-washed and made bright and new today. This E was built by Escalante Esca-lante High School Students in, approximately, ap-proximately, 1921 and has been whitewashed each year by students since then. Escalante High School students will light the E on the Big Hill on the West, about dark thirty tonight. This is the 36th year this ceremony has taken place on the West hill. Thankfully, some of our old traditions are still alive! Go Mo-quis! Mo-quis! Deon Alvey is looking for a new director to work at the senior citizen center. If you would like to work with the seniors and need a part time job you may want to give her a call. Dick and Donnette Lee, St. George, spent the weekend with Wanless Alvey. Dick painted the front porch and did odd jobs for Wanless while Donnie helped Clorene Vidrine out with some of their dad's household chores. Wanless Wan-less always enjoys their company. Kenneth and Marie Griffin are here for the summer. How's fishing, fish-ing, Kenneth? Renee Porter picked her sister, Ruth Baugh, up in Tropic and the two of them made a little trip to Provo. Tom and Ann Reynolds, Panguitch, Pan-guitch, spent the day in town on Thursday last week. They are in the process of building a cabin on their property in Boulder, so we will probably get to see more of them from now on. Tom gave us a report on his brother, Lark, who ,has recently had some serious surgery sur-gery done. Hopefully, Lark will be back home, in Cannonville by the time you read this. Darlene Pierce has gone with the Glade and Dale Reynolds group again for an outing over by Green-river. Green-river. Maybe the weather will cooperate co-operate this time and they will have a more pleasant trip. Klyn and Marlene Haws went to Buckeye, Ariz., last week for the graduation of their grandson, Klyn Haws, who is the son of Rick and Randie Haws. Klyn graduated from Westview High in Tolleson. The Haws' also enjoyed visiting their other grandsons, Kory and Robbie. Klyn, Marlene and grandson, Klyn, also visited in Phoenix, Ariz., with Quinn, Luella, Noel J., Bernell and Ann Roundy and their grandson Petie Yerkovich. Klyn and Marlene stopped in Page, Ariz., on their way home and ran into Vermon and Katherine Barney, Panguitch, who had also been to Phoenix for a high school graduation. Lynn and Mildred Gates have been home, but returned to Mesa, Ariz., where Mildred had another appointment with her doctor. The high school band and chorus cho-rus performed for the elementary school students, parents and grandparents grand-parents last week at the elementary school. It was most enjoyable. Stacey Davis, Boulder, is doing very well as their music teacher. Ruby Griffin is home from St. George for the summer. Lewis and Jean Griffin came from Provo to work on their place and get their trailer ready for a cam-pout cam-pout with the Sons of the Utah Pioneers. Lori Liston's mother, Joyce Wagstaff of Salt Lake City, had been visiting at the home of Lori and Dal. Our condolences to the family of Neal Liston, who passed away in the Garfield Memorial Hospital last week. Verda Liston is in the hospital in Panguitch. Lane and Geraldine Liston took her over and she has also been visited by her other children, chil-dren, Lynn Liston and daughter-in-law Marie Liston and grandchildren. She is doing better. Sandra Cooper has a new granddaughter, grand-daughter, born to Jay and Laura Hales, Sandy. The little girl's name is Kasherri Dawn and she has twin brothers at home to welcome her. Great-grandparents are Que and Cecil Dawn Porter and this is their first great-granddaughter. Jay has a new job. He will be teaching high school in Riverton, beginning in the Fall. |
