Show Panguitch High School Future Homemakers came back from state competition with significant successs. It was, according to their advisor, Janice State Honors For Panguitch High School Future Homemakers PANGUITCH Twenty Panguitch High School students and their advisor participated in the State Future Homemakers of America competition Mar. 28-30 at the Salt Palace in Salt Lake City bringing home five first place and one second place award out of 13 awarded in Consumer Education. According to Advisor Janice B. Hatch, "This was probably one of our best competition years ever." Of some 50 applicants for FHA scholarships and with only five awarded statewide, Panguitch brought home two. Both Ginger Hatch and Alesha Richards took captured $500 scholarships Winning a first place for the State Community Service award was the entire PHS Chapter with their project "Stop The Violence." Over 100 projects were entered from across the state with each submitting portfolios of their projects in advance. Hatch, a "best ever" experience and one that left teachers, parents and advisors bursting with pride. The students were rightfully proud, too. Only the first place recipients will travel to national competition to represent Utah. Chairpersons of the project, Frankie Burningham and Steven Heath Hatch will make the presentation. A first place was also taken home in the Community Service-Star Service-Star Event for the project "Arrive Alive," on drinking and driving. Marci Decker, Ginger Hatch and Alesha Richards were involved in this project. Jennifer Bulkley, Catherine Howard and Amber Veater took home a first place in the Skills for Life competition. They entered a project on Infant CPR. In the Junior Division Skills for l ife. Jesse Hatch, Mat Hatch and Casey McCullough brought home a first place. Christi Nay and Heather Excell took a first place award in Interpersonal Inter-personal Communications for their fathers and daughters presentation. Nicole Reynolds and Lindsey Bremner took home a second place in the Junior Division for their Interpersonal Communication presentation pre-sentation on "Siblings." The entire group received a Pep Award for their demonstration teaching community skills on CPR. An Honorary Member award plaque was also presented to longtime long-time FHA volunteer Nan Nay for her years of service to the chapter. Traveling with the group to Salt Lake City were Advisor Janice B. Hatch and parents Nan Nay, Sherrie Burningham and Jennifer Bremner. Members of the chapter were especially grateful to supportive Emergency Medical Technician Tammy Barton for her special patience in CPR training and to numerous community residents and parents for their help. The group will now concentrate strongly on fund raising efforts to take their entire membership back to national competition, July 5-12 inSt; Louis, Mo. |
