Show Vandals Paint County Commissioner's Car Again ESCALANTE For the second sec-ond time in as many months, a county-leased vehicle parked at the residence of Garfield County Commission Com-mission Chairman Louise Liston has been vandalized. Her husband Robert's vehicle, parked nearby, was untouched. The 1995 dark green Ford Taurus regularly operated by Liston for county business trips was the target of about a gallon of dark paint dumped on the trunk by one or more vandals sometime during the night Sunday. A similar incident inci-dent occurred in February. The area of the Liston residence was recently annexed into the Escalante city limits but is adjacent ad-jacent to a county road. Both Escalante Police Chief Sandie Hitchcock andv Garfield County Sheriff's Deputy Monte Luker investigated after the vandalism was discovered by Robert Liston Monday morning. In recent weeks, Liston's name also appeared on vandalized signs on public lands with epithets such as "Death to Liston." Considered to be one of the best-informed people in the West on public lands issues, Liston has been an outspoken opponent oppo-nent of certain environmentalist agendas. Investigating officers would not speculate about any possible connection con-nection between her political activities activ-ities and Sunday night's vandalism. They are continuing their investigation. |
