As you read in the newspaper last week I am the new correspondent, and even with this first column I have enjoyed it. PLEASE call me with the happenings and fun things in your life or if you can't reach me by telephone drop it by the house or mail. Lowell and Margaret Mecham accompanied by Malen Mecham traveled to St. George for the blessing of Joshua Scott Mecham, son of Scott and Jennifer Mecham born Feb. 6. There are two sisters Abby, and Brittany to enjoy him at home. Lowell and Margaret will be going to Salt Lake City where Margaret will be having surgery on April 3 at the LDS Hospital. Our prayers are with you Margaret for a speedy recovery so you can go to New Jersey and pick up your daughter in June from her LDS mission. Reed and Mary LeFevre went to Duchesne to visit Clayton and Sheila Harper and children. Going to St.George for another happy occasion are the Clive Bybees, Rick Bybees and Aaron Bybees for a baptism of granddaughter grand-daughter and niece Kara White, daughter of Chris and Sharon White. All of the Bybees are expected to be there except Shawn and his family who live in Idaho now and are unable to attend becase of the distance. Stanley and Louise Ott were in Salt Lake City the week of Mar. 18 for Stan's appointments at the VA hospital. .They don't want to see him for another year. Hooray! While they were waiting for one appointment they saw Floyd and Gerry Riddle. Recently married, the two say they are extremely happy and feel like they have known each other forever. Stan and Louise Ott stayed at daughter Clara Arce's place. She took them on to Ogden to visit Shawn and Marilyn Holley and family. They also visited with Fred and Rita Heywood and caught up on all of the family news. Kerry Alvey and son Ryan have been in Hurricane every weekend where wife and mother JoNeil has been staying with her parents Russell and Beverly Wright while waiting for a doctor's release to come home. Chris and Kimberly Hansen and children having been visiting the Orlan Ruesches and the Rick Bybees. They live in Yellowstone National Park and were on their way to and from the Grand Canyon where Cris got some training for his work. Dar and Norma Hatch have also been visiting with the Ruesches. Ronnie Brinkerhoff reports that Stephen and Amber Simons will be moving to St. George soon. Stephen has a job in the accounting department, at the Oasis in Mesquite, Nev. Eva Dean Francisco is home after having surgery on her shoulder. She said she spent two glorious weeks recovering with daugther and son-in-law Helena and Lloyd Mortensen in Parowan. where she was treated like royalty. She will travel soon to Salt Lake City for further tests. . Ella Bybee is receiving therapy at the Extended Care Center in Panguitch after knee surgery. Keep improving Ella, we miss seeing you about town. Lillis Francisco and daughter DeAnn Francisco' went to St.George. DeAnn stayed with sister Anita Iverson while Lillis went on to Las Vegas, Nev. with brother Ron Baugh to hear the LDS mission report of their niece who served in the New York mission. The Jack Pollocks had the privilege of tending Jacob and Katlin Pollock while their parents Gayle Lynn and Marie Pollock were in St.George the week of March 18 thru 21 to attend a Natural History Association (NHA) convention. Representives were there from all of the parks. Mane said she visited JoNeil Alvey and enjoyed her time with Gayle. She came on home Thursday. Gayle brought 10 people here to tour Bryce Canyon on Friday and Saturday. Visiting at Gayle and Marie's place were friends from Lakewood, Colo., Michael and Michele Perdue. While here they took them hunting fossils, toured Bryce-Canyon, Kodachrome, and had pizza. The Perdue's left for home on Tuesday. Grandma and Grandpa Pollock had a great time taking care of the grandkids. Wanda Shakespear reports that her sister Naomi's husband, Melvin Miller, 66, of Oklahoma passed .away from cancer. Ellen Pederson was in Salt Lake City on Mar. 23-24 to attend a Small Child Conference. She would like to get more people interested in child care as a business rather than just babysitting. baby-sitting. She says there is a training date coming up. Deward and Revon Smith from Hawthorne, Nev. came out for his sister Marjorie's birthday. While here they stayed at Bob and Mira Loy Ott's in Cannonville. Revon and Mira Loy are sisters. They also visited the Jack Pollocks, Stanley Otts, DeRell Sudweeks and Paul Mangums. "Smitty" as friends lovingly call him, said that he went with Pete Mangum on a round-up looking for five cows and found six. Pretty good success I'd say. Checked on Bishop Lonnie Pollock the other day. He wasn't enjoying being laid up with his broken leg. His mother told me he is back at school for half-days. Congratulations to the Brycettes on being invited to attend the National Drill Compettion at Disneyland in California. Kent and Betty Lou Wintch had daughter and son-in-law, Pam and Randall Spencer visit them. They were here checking on the computers at Bryce Canyon. Former resident Ida Kennedy who is working at the Bryce Canyon Lodge for the summer stopped by for a visit. She is such a special friend, it will be great having her back in our midst. She is looking for a rental in Tropic. Jerry Pollock will be going into the VA Hospital on April 7 and will have surgery on April 10. God speed, Jerry. The old saying that March comes in like a lamb and goes out like a lion seemed to hold true a the weather turned cold on the weekend. A trip to Cedar City through Brian Head showed us there's still lots of snow on the ground. |
