Show i.ii . 1 11 ' Escalante News ,.,,n.r, By Marlene Haws 826-4859 Tom and Marilyn Jackson were enroute to Cedar City the other day when they noticed a northbound car stranded on the other side of the freeway. Playing the part of a good Samaritan, they crossed over and went back to offer assistance. The driver of the car was a lady from Cedar City, formerly of Kanab, and had been there 212 hours before they came to rescue her. A gold star for the Jackson. Isn't it too bad that the good old days are gone when we dared offer assistance to everyone? Tempe and Kim Reid went to Gunnison to get Tempe a dress for the Junior Prom. Which, by the way, is to be held April 12. So get out your dancing shoes and support the Juniors! Patrice Cottam and family and Marlene Haws spent the weekend in Salina with the Jon Sorensen family. Shondelle Cottam shopped for her prom dress in Gunnison also, with the help of cousin Nicole Cottam and other members of the family of the female gender. Then they picked up the boys and went to Monroe for the All Stars basketball game in Monroe. Dusty Barnson played on the All Stars team and many of his family members and boosters from Esca-lante Esca-lante were there to watch including his parents, Barry and Linda Barn-son, Barn-son, Escalante, grandpas and grandmas, grand-mas, the Glover Smiths and the Garn Barnsons of Junction. Vernon and Peggy Roundy, Monroe, helped with the tournament tourn-ament so we visited with them also. Sheila Wooley made another trip up north. Once again for a funeral, that of a brother-in-law. Dennis and Sara Cowles, Casper, Wyo. visited at the homes of Chase Shurtz and Orilla Cowles. They had just left town when Sara's sister, Marian Mills and family, Portland, Ore. arrived to spend a week at their parents home. That of Chase and Helen Shurtz. They also visited with sister Susan Wilson and family. Max Porter went ot Bennion for the testimonial of his grandson, Adam Crump, who will be leaving to go on an LDS mission soon. Adam is a son of Roger and Maurine Crump. The senior citizen bus made a trip to St. George for eye appointments. appoint-ments. Deon Alvey, Marlene Haws, Melvine Alvey and LoReta Spencer from Escalante; Virginia Johnson, Henrieville; Margaret Braithwaite, Cannonville and Ella Adair and Margaret Mechm of Tropic. They should all be seeing a little more clearly now. The bus also took a load to Panguitch for a public forum on human services. Vickie Beck, Ephraim, came to stay with her mother, LoReta Spencer over the weekend. Lisa Nez has returned to school at the trade tech in Orem. She has one more quarter of schooling to finish up before she can become a radiologist. Good going, Lisa. Brooke Griffin, daughter of Quinn and Doneen Griffin and Tyler Clay, son of the Steven Clays were baptized members of the LDS Church in the Escalante LDS Second Ward. Mel and Vaunie Richins went to Cedar City for doctor appointments and Don and Lillian Coleman went for dental appointments. Clella Woolsey accompanied Angie Griffin as far as Richfield, then went on to Salina to spend a few days with son, Danny Woolsey and family. Seth Steed, son of Stephen and Dianna Steed, was taken by ambulance to Garfield Memorial Hospital after he fell and struck his head at the elementary school. The doctors checked him out and sent him back home so we're glad he's going to be okay. The Parley Coleman family had their annual spring get-together at the home of Frank and Kathryn Coleman. Eleven of the 12 children were here including, besides Frank and Kathryn, Dan, Don and Lillian and Hyrum and Mary Ellen Coleman, who live here; Bessie Palmer and daughter Dorthea, Wellington; Fern Johnson and granddaughter, Teena Prince, West Valley City; Jim and Cloe Walker, Ivins; Leo and Barbara Gardner, Boulder; Lea Button, Kanab; LaFaye and Janet Coleman, Orderville and Jerry and Rosalee Coleman, Kanab. Tommy and Gay Renck were the only ones who couldn't make it. They were in Colorado attending a golden wedding celebration. Mary Ellen Coleman still isn't feeling too well so her daughters came to visit and do the spring cleaning. Donna Rae Barker came from Monroe, Irene Brown from Lindon, Valerie Davies and her daughter and son-in-law Machelle and Bob Burgess came from Aurora. They didn't say what Hyrum found for Bob to do. Maybe they cooked and washed dishes? Arnold and Deon Alvey made a trip to Richfield. They tried to come home over the Boulder mountain but it snowed so hard they had to go back to Loa and stay with daughter Janeen Duncan and family. Tom and Brenda Down, American Fork, came to spend the weekend with Brenda's mother, Clea Woolsey before Clea returned to her job at Ruby's Inn for the summer. Clea's son and daughter-in-law Layne and Pat Woolsey took a load of her belongings over for her. |
