Show Crarkane Power Association Y2K Efforts Applauded Garkane Power Association has been recognized in a letter from Senator Robert F. Bennett for the Cooperative's work in addressing potential problems created by the Year 2000 date change. Senator Bennett is Chairman of the United States Senate Special Committee on the Year 2000 Technology Problem. Prob-lem. Representatives from Utah's Rural Ru-ral Electric Cooperatives, including Garkane Power, met recently with staff members of the Senate Y2K Committee to discuss the Cooperative's Coopera-tive's progress in dealing with Y2K issues. Carl R. Albrecht, General Manager at Garkane Power Association, Associa-tion, indicated the Y2K Committee not only recognized the efforts being be-ing taken by Utah's Electric Cooperatives Coop-eratives to ensure that their customers custom-ers continue receiving reliable electric elec-tric service into the new millennium, millen-nium, but also commended the work they have done to date. "Senator Bennett noted that they have looked at numerous electric utility programs and found that Utah's Rural Electric Cooperatives are at the forefront in addressing electric reliability issues associated with Y2K," said Albrecht. According to Albrecht, Garkane provided a Y2K readiness statement to the Senator along with Y2K information compiled by Garkane's wholesale power supplier, Deseret Generation and Transmission, in response to reports from national news agencies that small electric companies did not have the resources re-sources to adequately address Y2K problems. "At Garkane we have been working on identifying and correcting correct-ing real and potential Y2K problems prob-lems for nearly two years now. We wanted to ensure Senator Bennett, the Y2K Committee and Garkane members that we did indeed have the capability to deal with these (See Y2K on page 4-A) Y2K From front page issues." The Senator's letter applauded the initiative displayed by Utah's Rural Electric Cooperatives to insure in-sure critical date sensitive equipment equip-ment will be compatible with the year 2000. In addition the Cooperatives Coopera-tives were recognized their foresight in working with suppliers to assure the availability of materials and for their continued assessment of the Y2K issue.
