Show gscalante Events Marilyn Jackson Resting, recuperating and reclining reclin-ing describe this week after the rip-roaring rip-roaring rodeos, dances, program and other activities. Reminiscing with former residents and relatives, ram-ioding ram-ioding children and grandchildren to holiday events and supplying refreshments re-freshments kept everyone busy. Even a little rain fell which was refreshing. re-freshing. ..3 Mrs. Fcrrel Roundy of Taft, Calif., stopped in Panguitch on their way to New York state to see Paul Michael Cardon and family. fami-ly. The Cardons are planning to move to Bloomington and the Roundys are purchasing the Joe Schow property south of town where they plan to retire. Mr. and Mrs. Dan Tucker had thei son Blaine Tucker of San Diego home for a short visit. He brought friend Robert McVay who once lived here and worked at the sawmill after graduating from Bryce Valley High School. Home for the holiday were Mr. and Mrs. Howard Church of St. George and their daughter Debbie Williams. Virginia Bauer came from Cedar City to spend a week while the St. George Temple is closed. Vickie Hamm of Teasdale spent the holiday with mother LoReta Spencer and her brothers. Clella Woolsey shared sister Vio Sudwecks of Kingston and Margaret Rollins with the Lavern Griffin family. The LaVern Griffins also had daughter Jolyn Peterson and three children come from Payson where she teaches preschool. Dr. and Mrs. Jim Corning of Tucson were at the Randel Lyman home. Tracy Robison of Ely came to be with the Theron Mitchells, and Dr. and Mrs. Lance Hatch visited the Gail Baileys. Mr. and Mrs. Jerry Roundy of Rexburg, Ida., were home with many members of their family. Sons, Daryl Spencer and Evan Spencer came as did Mr. and Mrs. Nile Schow who shared their time with the Maitland Spencers and the Ken Schows. Mr. and Mrs. Johnny Alvey have been building a new home in California; they left their work to meet family members here. They joined the Greg Tait and Jay Stokes families at the Smith Alvey home. Jaleen Vance flew from Texas to Las Vegas where she met son Wayne Pollock who had driven from California. They came to share a week with the Neal Liston family and join the celebration. At the Robert Liston home were daughters Jan Nelson and Michelle Johnson. Marie Hall had daughters Lila McCurdy and Lillian Sheppard. home. Son-in-law John Elmer " called from Cedar City where he attended at-tended the funeral services of his brother, Howard Elmer, before returning re-turning to New York. Wife Arlene Elmer and children did not come as they had made the trip just two weeks earlier for the funeral services of John's mother Julia Elmer of Cannonville. Lillian bore her testimony tes-timony in LDS Second Ward sacrament meeting Sunday as did Mr. and Mrs. Clem Griffin who are planning to move here after his retirement re-tirement next spring. Clem is on the high council in their ward in Salt Lake City and wife Doneta Griffin serves in the Relief Society. At the Gene Griffin home were sons Brent Griffin, Gary Griffin and family and the children of Mark Griffin. The Griffin brothers joined the Mecham sisters and Jay Chris-tensen Chris-tensen and Deanna Moore to provide pro-vide the music for the outstanding program which was enjoyed by an overflow crowd Saturday. Mr. and Mrs. Arnold Alvey had daughter Raylcne Whitefield of Las Vegas home for the occasion. Among others here for the celebration cele-bration were Mr. and Mrs. Jimmy Spencer of Orem, the Rick Woolseys, Evelyn Heap, and Michelle Marsh of Cedar City, Carlyle Shurtz of Sandy and Mr. and Mrs. Reed Jackson of Torrey. Mr. and Mrs. Danny Rollins of Cedar City came to be with the Don Coleman family. Wife Joyce and children will stay for a few days while Danny returns to work. Brian Griffin and Patrice Eyre brought their youngsters to be with the Bill Griffins. Carol Sorenson and husband stayed with the Pratt Gates and Terri Lynn Dowdell at the Lynn Gates. Mr. and Mrs. Ronald Spencer joined the LaRue Spencer clan, and Mr. and Mrs. Johnny Michelangelo returned from ) California to be with their Cowles, Woolsey and Reid relatives. While here, Twila Michelangelo, mother Orilla Cowles, son Danny Reid, grandson David Reid and new baby daughter Felisha Kaye Reid, stood for a cherished five generation picture. pic-ture. Anne Haws of Washington and Marilee Miller of Mesa came to be with the Dclane Griffins. Cora Shakespcar of Tropic joined sister Ethel Griffin, and Mr. and Mrs. Clyde Christcnsen and Mr. and Mrs. Gary Christcnsen divided their time among relatives. Mr. and Mrs. Wade Barney took their childrent to Salt Lake City to fulfill a life-long desire of Shclly's to attend the Days of '47 parade and rodeo there. A large group of the Lewis Munson descendants met at Singletree Campground for their family reunion. All of the children of Mr. and Mrs. LoRcll Munson were in attendance and joined the families of Mr. and Mrs. Kim Lay, Mr. and Mrs. Hal Woolsey, Mr. . and Mrs. Voyle Munson, Mr. and Mrs. Howard Munson and Mr. and Mrs. Elwood Willis. With members mem-bers of Lavar Munsons family they totaled 104 strong. Barbara Munson had friend Debbie Porter and three children of Pleasant Grove who also joined in the celebration as her husband attended the scout jamboree. jam-boree. Mr. and Mrs. Frank Venuti and Hazel Sanborn have had many of their family home for the celebration. celebra-tion. Daughter-in-law Irene Sanborn and daughters Erin Sanborn and Katie Sanborn came from Redlands, Calif., with her father Geoge Cas-sidy Cas-sidy of San Bernardino. Granddaughter Grand-daughter Tamra Kendleton and daughters Jolie Kendleton, Maren Kendleton, and Ashley Kendleton of Redlands joined grandson Chris Sanborn who is attending Brigham Young University. The group enjoyed en-joyed daughter Karin Williams and her husband Jess Williams of Idaho Falls. Hazel Sanbom had returned from a trip to New York where she went as a tourist to their family resort re-sort there. She picked up two Indian girls, Stacy Sampson and Chastity George of Wapato, Wash., who will stay for a couple of weeks. Mr. and Mrs. Kay Gates of El-berta El-berta were here. Eva Marie Durfey had her two younger brothers Charley Crosby and Kenneth Crosby Cros-by of Alton staying with her for the celebration. The Al Barlow family came from California to oversee the progress on their new home. ' Maude Spencer traveled to Torrey to help sister Dolly Mulford with some quilting. The descendants of Peter Orrin Barker met together for their family reunion and to com-memoriate com-memoriate what would have been his 111th birthday. Over 100 of his posterity including the families of Elsie Fitts of Salt Lake City, Leva Service of San Francisco, Clora Lay of Rexburg, Id., Elvin Barker of Salt Lake City and Jean Barney of Kaysville met with the Dee Haws family here. Each of the immediate im-mediate families was represented except Ned Barker who stayed to meet a son who has spent several years in Europe. Sam Spencer made the weekend celebration a dual affair, honoring his birthday with a special cake created by the Double D Cafe employees. em-ployees. Relatives learned of the death of Marie Roundy, wife of former resident resi-dent Zola Roundy, who passed away in Orem after complications from surgery. Landon Carter, young son of Myron Carter has his arm in a cast after a bad fall from a swing. Escalanteans send lots of luck to the State High School Rodeo champions, Emilee Lott and Matt Liston who are competing in Pueblo, Colorado, this week in the National finals. |
