Show Leavitt Campaigns In Garfield Area Hosted by residents of Garfield County towns, Dixie Leavitt has spent much of the past two weeks campaigning in the area. Leavitt, a candidate for the Utah Senate representing Garfield, Iron, Kane, and Washington counties, attended at-tended the Panguitch Pioneer Day celebration Saturday. The bulk of his time in the county, however, has been spent in door-to-door contact con-tact with voters. "People's trust is best earned person-to-person," Leavitt said. "Personal contacting is a strenuous task. I may not get a chance to meet with every voter, but I've certainly cer-tainly enjoyed meeting as many as I have." So far, Leavitt has visited with residents of Boulder, Escalante, Panguitch, Tropic, Cannonville and Hcnrieville. An advocate of paving the Burr Trail, Leavitt believes the potential for growth in Garfield County is promising and can be realized by developing the county's industry, tourism and recreation. Leavitt told residents that the county needs a strong experienced voice in the senate if its interests are to be well represented. He believes be-lieves local citizens need to have more say in regard to public lands and draws on his early beginnings on his family's farm for perspective. perspec-tive. Leavitt and his Garfield County volunteers will continue campaigning campaign-ing in the area in anticipation of the September 13 primary. |
