Show PHS Girl Cagers Off To Good Start With Pair Of Victories By John Yardley The Panguitch High School girls basketball team got a blazing start last week with two opening ! weekend wins. Heidi Miller's squad took victories over Kanab 49-40 : and Parowan 48-24. The junior varsity team also won two games with a 34-24 win over Kanab and a 34-18 win over Parowan. Against Kanab, senior star Suzette Holman burned the nets for 27 big points to lead the Panguitch attack. Shannon Allen was next in line with scoring, notching seven. Panguitch led 22-15 at half-time and the teams played close to even the rest of the way. Kanab is picked by many to be the top team in the region. In J.V. play, freshman Candy Orton swished 13, to go along with fellow freshman Andrea Howard's 10 to lead the scoring for the younger players. Traveling to Parowan, PHS had an easy time in both games. The J.V. team led 22-2 at half-time, be fore winning 34-18. Those two points by the lady Rams both came from the free-throw line. Kami En-glestead En-glestead and Cassie Howard were the top scorers with eight points each. The varsity jumped out to 22-12 first half lead and then increased it by a couple in winning 48-24. Suzie Holman was up to the task once more as she tanked 19 big ones to lead all scorers. Junior Tami Henrie dropped in nine to help the Panguitch cause as the next leading scorer. The Lady Cats continue in full swing this week as they entertain Valley in Panguitch Friday and play at Wayne County on Saturday. Valley knocked off Enterprise by 14 last weekend and promises to be one of the better teams in the league. Panguitch then plays a "pre-Thanksgiving" "pre-Thanksgiving" game next Wednesday Wednes-day at home against Enterprise. That game is scheduled for 12:30 p.m. |
