Show Burr Trail Vandal Suspect Cleared Of 3 Of 12 Counts Sixth Circuit Court Judge David Mower has dismissed three charges against a man suspected of vandalizing vandal-izing construction equipment on the Burr Trail, and said Monday that he will decide by Dec. 1 whether the defendant will be tried on nine other allegations. Grant Smith Johnson, 31, had faced a July 3 1 hearing before Judge Mower, but defense attorneys asked that the pre-trial hearing be reopened re-opened for additional evidence. After dismissing one charge of damaging a bulldozer and two drug counts, Mower said he has agreed to look at two legal cases before deciding whether Johnson should be bound over to stand trial in Sixth District Court. Johnson still faces three criminal crimi-nal mischief charges, alleging he damaged bulldozers, plus six drug counts. Several environmental groups oppose Garfield County's plan to regrade a 27-mile section of the Burr Trail, which runs from Boulder Boul-der to Lake Powell. Silicone poured into the oil pans of several bulldozers damaged the heavy earthmovers. Lawmen followed footprints from the scene to the Deer Creek environmental enclave and arrested Johnson after finding marijuana, hallucinogenic mushrooms and LSD in his teepee. |
