Show Garfield EMTs Take Specialized Training Ten EMTs from four communities in Garfield County attended the annual Pre-Hospital Care and Crisis Intervention Conference Con-ference in Salt Lake City Nov. 10-12. 10-12. The conference, which attracts many nationally recognized speakers speak-ers in emergency medical services, emphasized specialized care for particular par-ticular patient groups, particularly children and senior citizens, accord ing to ambulance Operations Officer Offi-cer Bob McCullough. One of the most popular speakers speak-ers was Marge Duchano of Florida who is noted for her lectures on facing death but also gave instruction instruc-tion on the role of humor in health and care of the elderly. This last subject was of great importance for area EMTs since (See EMTs On Page Two) EMTs Continued From Page One Garfield County has a high percentage of senior citizens, particularly par-ticularly in the summer. According to McCullough, it may have even more importance in the future, since Utah is ranked as the number one state to retire in. Betty Frandsen, Jean Julander, Bob Smith, Kim Soper and Jan Stone of Panguitch's squad attended as did Virginia Giles and Carla Sawyer from Hatch. Jim Bowman and Tracy Dallison represented Es-calante's Es-calante's squad, and Bill Collins attended at-tended from the Ticaboo unit. Another favorite speaker was one of the members of the rescue team that captured national attention during the rescue of the McClure Baby that fell into an abandoned well shaft in Texas. According to those attending, the basics of Emergency Medicine including airway, breathing and circulation, were re-emphasized by almost every speaker. McCullough reminds anyone interested in taking the EMT class which starts in December, that books should be obtained now by contacting Garfield Memorial Clinic in Panguitch, Sandrea Francisco Fran-cisco in the Bryce area or Tracy Dallison in the Escalante area. |
