Show Mutilated Cow Spurs Area Investigation ESCALANTE Garfield County Sheriff's officers are conducting a continuing investigation after remains of a mutilated black cow were found early Sunday morning approximately six miles south of Escalante. The animal, devoid of all blood and with its sex organs removed, was . discovered by owner Sally Davidson only hours after it was apparently shot through the eye. Mrs. Davidson and her husband Howard were checking out their range cattle after losing one to a lightning strike only two days earlier. They are owners of the Strath Kay Ranch at Escalante. Sheriff's Deputy Boyd Woolsey investigated the scene, calling in veterinarian William Christy to examine the animal. Illegal killing of livestock carries a heavy penalty in Utah. Although townspeople are reluctant to call the killing the work of "devil wor- shippers," they are not naive to the implications of the gruesome discovery. Anyone with any information that could prove pertinent is asked to contact the Sheriff's Office. |
