Show Teachers Participate In Summer Training According to Debbie Pollock, teacher at Panguitch High School, virtually every educator in the Garfield County School District will be attending andor teaching workshops or participating in various vari-ous district projects this summer. The career ladder committee will be scrutinizing career ladder projects. pro-jects. The committee is composed of educators, administrators, PTA officers, and civic leaders who bring a broad spectrum of ideas and opinions opin-ions to bear on this important phase of educators work. Although the current curriculum does not include a literature program pro-gram until the sixth grade, Marilyn Bulkley, a teacher at Panguitch Elementary El-ementary School, is working to establish such a program for the younger students in hopes they will come to love good literature. Curtis Barney will be working to organize, on the high school level, district-wide competition in areas from accounting to business law. A building and construction program is being scheduled for Bryce Valley High School under the direction of Lane LeFevre. This will give the students a "feel" for the construction process, tool han- dling, blueprint reading and interpretation inter-pretation and building problems. Jani Henrie will be adding to the science curriculum for the use of elementary school teachers. Several hundred slides of Utah landforms were donated to the Ticaboo school and Connie Noyes will be collating and labeling them for use throughout the district. Ann Reynolds will be working with the middle school English curriculum by developing lesson plans using the new method piloted by Panguitch High and Panguitch Middle School called target learning. learn-ing. Bart Reynolds will be working in the science area to develop science sci-ence activities to stimulate the minds of slower students to help them grasp some of the more difficult diffi-cult concepts. Escalante schools will be utilizing utiliz-ing a learning lab operated by Richard Crawford for students who need extra help with class andor homework. A semester class offering will be written by Debra Pollock which will cover world literature, designed for the upper level juniorsenior students in the district. |
