Show Escalante Events Marilyn Jackson Summer activities are keeping people busier than ever. Mr. and Mrs. J.C. Haws came from Brigham City with their son John Haws, his wife Joy and four children. chil-dren. They were joined by Mr. and Mrs. Floyd Jennings who came to help them with sheetrocking their house. Wife Susan Jennings is the granddaughter of Colleen Munson Tucker and had the opportunity to attend a Munson reunion in Monroe on the way. Laurel Andrus came from California Cali-fornia to see her mother Laura Baker and help plant some flowers. The Herman Spencers had numerous nu-merous guests at their home. Their daughter Linda Rae Clark, husband and one son of West Valley, joined daughter Wilma Wood, husband and three children and son Robert Spencer and children. Deloy Spencer and family arrived from Pleasant View where he has ended another year of teaching school. Over 80 members of the George Spencer family met for their reunion re-union at the Community Center. Vio Sud weeks came from Kingston and had all of her children present for the occasion. Mr. and Mrs. Harlan Spencer came from Kansas to spend a couple of weeks with relatives. Karamon Anderson came with husband Chuck Anderson on a quick trip home for the reunion before be-fore returning to Kansas for work. The Neal Julanders and Danny Woolseys of Salina also came. Many Boulder residents joined the Griffin and Woolsey relatives for funeral services of Nethella Woolsey. She was Escalante's oldest old-est lady and will be long remembered remem-bered for writing the "Escalante Story." The Haynes Woolseys were in Ely for the weekend to attend graduation exercises for granddaughter Jennifer Tatman. Lori Coleman and mother Kathleen Kath-leen Williams went to Idaho to care for the children of sister Deborah Staples who won a trip to Ireland. The Carlyle Shurtz family picked up daughter Kaylcne Shurtz from college in Cedar City and joined daughter and son-in-law, the Ken Woods of Logan at the Shurtz home. Beryl Shurtz then accompanied accompa-nied them to Mesa to see her other son Randy Shurtz. It is good to have the townsfolk home from the eastern and southern States tour with Jerry Roundy. Mr. v and Mrs. Ushur Spencer, Mr. and Mrs. Smith Alvey, Mr. and Mrs. Hal Shurtz, Margcne Schow, Lucille Lu-cille Cowles and son Ronald Cowles, Hazel Sanborn and Orilla Cowlcs are home after their three-week three-week trip. They visited the Epcott Center, Disney World, Nashville and New Orleans seeing Mr. and Mrs. Park Shurtz who are on a mission at the Atlanta, Georgia, LDS Temple. They rode in a glass-bottom glass-bottom boat in Florida and swam in the Atlantic Ocean. Ronald Cowlcs participated in an old west play in Dodge City and Hal Schurtz helped pull in a net of fish. Gaya Brady also accompanied the group on the tour. The Hal Shurtzcs returned in time to see daughter Valerie Huntington Hunt-ington graduate from Southern Utah State College and meet son Kerry Dean Shurtz who is home for a short stay. Mr. and Mrs. Bill Blankenagle have a new baby daughter born Sunday. Several babies received names and blessings in LDS sacrament meeting Sunday, including April Marie Lyman, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Blaine Lyman; Clay Norman Chrstenscn, son of Mr. and Mrs. Gary Christcnsen; and Joseph Jordan Jor-dan Carter, son of Mr. and Mrs. Kcilh Carter. On hand for the occasion occa-sion were grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Philo Carter and many of the Christensen aunts and uncles. Mr. and Mrs. Blake Schow spent the week in the area checking on their home and touring favorite vacation spots and visiting family members. The Randcl Lymans and James Mclncllys went to Salt Lake City for the golden wedding anniversary of the John Wcigels. Congratulations Congratula-tions also go to Mr. and Mrs. Curly Hale of St. George who also celebrated their golden wedding anniversary. an-niversary. Janet Dodds and William "Billy" Kraft were married. They are honeymooning hon-eymooning in Meeker, Colo, where they will reside. Also married were Robyn Woolsey, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Laync Woolsey, and Donald Potcct, son of Mr. and Mrs. Greg Potcct. The ncwlyweds have a trailer home in the Norbutt Trailer Court. Marlcne Stowe and Susan Wilson Wil-son accompanied the MIA girls to St. George where they met Anne Haws and saw the church house which burned last week. It was the building used by Anne's ward there. The Coleman relatives were relieved re-lieved to hear that Clay Walker of Veyo is home after a serious car accident. Clay, 26, is the son of Clo Coleman Walker. The car hit a concrete wall, was airborn 84 feet, then landed on its top. He was treated at Dixie Medical Center and is now home. Ruby Griffin, Tolain Trujillo and Hilda Roundy were among Es-calantcans Es-calantcans who attended the funeral service for LaRae King Williams hcI&Tuesday in Cedar City. National Park Service Ranger, Jim Bowman brought his bride Anita from Montana where she has been teaching school and recently finished for summer vacation. They are living in the trailer home formerly occupied by the Gary Lis-. Lis-. tons. Visiting at the Edson Alvey home were daughter Arvonne Whitaker and granddaughter Kim Al-Naquceb. Also home were the Bryan Griffins and their baby daughter Nycole. Bryan and wife Sue Ellen teach -xhool and are enjoying en-joying their summer vacation. Several hardy Daughters of the Utah Pioneers met in Pine Creek to gather black boulders for the foundation foun-dation to the monument they are erecting. Donna Bailey accompanied the Claron Griffins to Logan for the graduation exercises of Jeff Olson, husband of granddaughter Tamra Olson, who received a degree in commercial art. They returned to meet daughter Pauline Lott and granddaughter Emilce Lott who are home for the summer. The Vemon Griffins traveled to Richfield and Delta to witness exercises for their three granddaughters who graduated from Hjigh school this year, Gina Griffin daughter of their son Raymond, Kimberly Eyre daughter of their daughter Carolyn Eyre and Tina Woolsey daughter of their daughter Shonna Peterson. Ethel Pollock enjoyed a visit from grandson Mark Pollock who came to do some fishing then took Ehtcl back to Salt Lake City to meet her new great-grandchild born to Mark and his wife last month, and to attend the wedding of Mark's younger brother Scott Pollock this weekend. Mr. and Mrs. Bob Porter of Mesa, Ariz., came for a few days and Ike Scvy is spending some of the summer months in Escalante near sister Jan Liston. A camera crew lor Western Horseman Magazine were filming the local cowboys as they gathered cattle on the desert. New stars include in-clude the Griffin brothers, Lynn and Dclane, Kurt Richins and Kirk Lyman. Ly-man. Members of the library committee are moving along with steady progress. New bookcases are being built by Ronnie Harris, Ron Criglcr, Roland Bee and Ernie Snyder. Sny-der. They will be moving into the building in July and hope to have it open in August. A youth group is coming from the Provo area to do service projects in our area. They will be helping widows with yardwork and painting the new library as well as finishing the playground at the community center. They will join both LDS wards for a combined potluck budget dinner June 17 in the LDS Stake Center. Everyone is encouraged encour-aged to come, bring their dishes. Ham will be provided. Entertainment Entertain-ment by the Sanpete "Shcepherders" will also be a highlight of the evening. |
