Show Americanism Essay Contest Area Winners Take Prizes - Winners of the Americanism Essay Contest sponsored by the lo-; lo-; cal American Legion Auxiliary ; were selected recently from essays 1- submitted by some 150 students from Panguitch Elementary, Pan-: Pan-: guitch Middle School and Pangui-: Pangui-: tch High School. Theme of this year's contest was "Why I Love America." Essays were required to be from 300 to 500 words. Capturing the three $10 grand prizes were Emily Moser, Panguitch Pangui-tch Elementary; Katrina Bagnell, Panguitch Middle School; and Jo-lene Jo-lene Miller, Panguitch High School. Two dollar first prize awards went to first place winners at the elementary school: Christal Al-brecht Al-brecht (3rd grade), Rebecca Lish (4th grade), Colin Marshall (5th : grade), Heidi Christy (7th grade); : Melissa Boshell (8th grade), Brody Orton (9th grade), Becky Riggs ; (10th grade), Rhett Veater (11th ; grade),and Julie Ross (12th grade). 1 Second and third prizes winners ! were each awarded $1: Ray Mangum and Cassandra Matthews ' (3rd grade), Brent McEwen and JoAnna Jackson (4th grade). Lance Sawyer and Philip Blais (5th grade), Bryan Boshell and Luke Yardley (7th grade), Wendy Woolsey and Jessica Torgerson (8th grade), Maria Chidester and Sunnie Smith (9th grade), Trudy Yardley and Skeet Houston (10th grade), Bryan Richards (11th grade), and Kory Owens and Candace Swanger (12th grade). Essays by the three grand prize winners were sent to district. District Dis-trict winners were scheduled to go on to state competition where they could win from $25 to $50 more. Local American Legion Auxiliary Auxil-iary members expressed their appreciation appre-ciation to those who entered and for the fine expressions of patriotism made through the essays. American Legion Auxiliary president is Beth Heywood, vice president is Larene Hepworth, and Romana Howard serves as secretary. |
