Show Deed for Land Given Otter Creek Company Rod Lister, area manager for the Sevier River Resource Area, Bureau of Land Management announced that the Otter Creek Reservoir Company has purchased 31.25 acres on which the Otter Creek Reservoir Dam is located. This sale of land has been to alleviate a safety problem that has stemmed from usage by the public. The dam is an earthfill structure with a clay core and a rock surface that forms a reservoir of approximately 2,600 acres with a storage of 54,980 acre feet of water. A right-of-way was issued in 1902 for Irrigation purposes. There has been damage done in the past creating a potential safety problem which the State Engineer for Utah requested that the Otter Creek Reservoir Company upgrade its structure. Some of this damage has been the result of vehicles parking on the dam In wet conditions and rearrangement of rocks on the dam by fishermen. Lister said "I hope that this land transaction provides the Otter Creek Company an opportunity to prevent further damage to the dam and resolve a potential safety hazard." |
