Show f It Makes Cents BY VI JUDGE Dear Vi: Here are three household hints I think are worthwhile: 1. Tightly wrap iceberg lettuce in aluminum foil to keep it fresh longer. 2. When flashlight batteries get weak, reverse their position for longer use. 3. Put small nails through the teeth of a comb tc hold them in position while you drive them with a hammer. Mrs. CP. Walker, Cedar City, Utah Dear Vi: If you have a big toenail that punches holes in your hosiery, as my big toenail does, cover it with clear plastic tape. The clear tape barely shows, 'and this surely saves on nylons. It saves on snags also. Bev Buhanan, Provo, Utah Dear Vi: I was about to cut up my favorite tablecloth for dishtowels because the floral design had faded so much. Then, one day when my little girl had her crayons out, I got an idea and started coloring the faded flowers and leaves with the crayons. When this was done, I set the colors by pressing with a hot iron, with brown paper underneath and on top to protect the iron and ironing board cover. I have washed this tablecloth numerous times since and the colors are still bright and cheerful. Deborah Jones, Rexburg, Idaho Dear Vi: I've heard so many ways to use bits of soap, but I like my way best of all. Save them until you have a whole bunch, then melt them in a pan over medium-low heat, with just a little water added, when melted, pour the soap into a cake pan and let it harden, then cut it into squares. and you have bars of soap again. Brendalsen, San Diego, Calif . Dear Vi: My mom has a cedar chest full of pictures, baby announcements, newspaper articles about friends and family members, and so on, but they never got looked at because it is too much trouble to go through them. Now that I am married, I am going to make a scrap book for every year. We have already completed the first year and enjoy looking through it. Mom says she sincerely wishes she had done this. She wants to get all the mountain of memories she has in her chest sorted and put in scrap books, but there never seems to be enough time to tackle such a big job. Vera Cunningham, Evanston, Wyo. Dear Vi: Our baby has outgrown his playpen and wants to crawl. Our two-year-old gets frustrated when I let the baby out of the playpen because he messes up his play, knocking down building blocks, upsetting puzzles, etc. What a joy when I finally thought of this simple solution: Let the baby out of the playpen; put the older child and his toys in. A Wiser Mom Dear Vi: I have a clever hanging bakset for a trailing plant that is also a precious souvenior: our son's first football helmet. A wire coat hanger placed in holes in the side of the helmet serves as a hanger. The 'air holes in its top provide drainage holes. It's our favorite. Jim and Elfreda Bascon, Las Vegas, Nev.
