Show Hit and Run Driver Caught by Officers An alert and quick thinking grocery clerk at the SUE Market July 8 was credited with supplying details to trace a hit and run driver and vehicle in the early evening hours. Lawrence Orton watched as occupants of a blue Chevy van allegedly backed into a parked vehicle just outside the entrance to the market. Ortonohserved as the drivtcand two. passengers out out to survey the damage to the struck vehicle at 1969 Olds Cutlass. As the youth looked on the individauls jumped back into their own van and sped off from the scene. Orton was able to provide not only a good vehicle desciption but license number of the auto as well. Damage to the struck car was estimated at about $200 and investigation is continuing into the accident. Not lucky enough to have an eye witness in a similar mishap was local Panguitch resident Charlie Allen. Allen had been working as night jailer for the county recently and in doing so had left his 1980 Ford Granada parked directly in front of the police station. While Allen was out patrolling Panguitch, assisting officer John Woodruff, Allen's vehicle was ap- parently also hit by a hit and run vehicle. The moving vehicle struck the parked car in the right rear quarter panel with such impact that the Allen car was moved some seven feet. The incident took place around 10:30 p.m. on Friday July 10. Officers were able to collect some evidence at the scene and are continuing their investigation.
