Show Second Irrigation System Mulled for Panguitch City A plan to construct a secondary water system to serve lawn and garden needs in and around the community of Panguitch was authorized by the Board of Water Resources at its monthly meeting on July 2 in Park City. The proposed system, sponsored by the City of Panguitch, is expected to cost $550,000. The city has applied to the board for funds from the state's Conservation and Development Program to construct the project. A decision about committing funds to the project will be made by the board after designs and construction plans are completed. The proposed project includes the construction of a diversion structure on South Ditch and the installation of about 70,000 feet of pipeline. City officials indicate the proposed project will reduce groundwater problems in the community and lower operation and maintenance costs. The project also is expected to increase the capacity of the existing municipal system with the reduction of outside use of culinary water. The Board has suggested that the requested funds be repaid over a 40-year period. Panguitch City Manager Bruce Fullmer stated that the city will schedule a bond election with the date set tentatively for August 18. Bids will be let simultaneously to consulting firms for the design of the project it is expected. |
