Show Utah School Board Sessions Open Today in Garfield Co. j The Utah State Board of Education will travel to Tropic and Panguitch for their April meetings. This is the first time the board has met in this location. The meetings in various parts of the stale are part of the board's plan to become better acquainted with the people of Utah. The site for the meeting Thursday, when the board meets as the Utah State Board of Vocational Education, will be Bryce Valley High School in Tropic. f All of the meetings are open and everyone is Invited to attend all or part of the proceedings. Thursday's agenda includes a tour of Bryce Valley High, to give the board a view of the facilities, programs, and personnel. Also on the agenda are several progress reports. The State Plan for Vocational Education will be discussed. The Apprentice Training program will be explained. Approval of board for Sevier Valley Area Vocational Center and compensation for area center boards are other agenda items. Following adjournment the board will travel to Panguitch for a meeting with local boards and superintendents of Garfield, Kane, Piute, and Wayne school districts. This meeting will be held at the Middle School cafeteria. Friday at 9 a.m. the board will reassemble as the Utah State Board of Education in the court room of the Garfield County Courthouse, Panguitch. Items to be discussed include guidelines for elementary education in Utah; tour of Panguitch High School; ' report on rural schools; standards of professional competence for Utah educators; standards of ethical conduct (for Utah educators. The next meetings will be held May 17-18 in Salt Lake City at the office of the board. State Superintendent of Public In struction, Walter D. Talbot, will ac company the board. ' Talbot, born in Panguitch is well known to many area residents. 1 Married to Dorleen Williams in 1946, the Talbots have five children and 15 grandchildren. Talbot has served at ward level as Sunday School teacher and choir director and for the stake as music and dance director for both the Tropic and Panguitch areas. He began his professional educational experience in 1949 as a teacher and athletic coach at elementary and secondary schools. He also served as principal from 1953-55 at both these levels.
