Show Traffic Patterns Show Wide Variation in Southern Utah A variety of traffic volume patterns were recorded at Utah Department of Highway stations throughout southern Utah for April, compared with last year, 1970 and 1965, as well as comparisons with the first four months of the year. Increases were noted in many stations, but other showed surprising drops from past years. On a state level, six of 10 composite figures showed increases while the other four were down from a year ago. At the recording station north of Vermillion on U. S. Highway 89, traffic volume was down 4.7 percent compared with April, 1974, but was higher than 1970 by 50.9 percent and up from 1966 by 58.4 percent. A composite of the firsffour months of the year showed a tra.ilc increase of 5.3 percent over last year; up by 42.7 percent from 197 and up by 52.8 percent over 1966. At the recording station located at the junction of U. S. 4 89 and Utah-14 (Long Valley), April traffic was down 27.0 percent compared with a year ago and down by 4.5 percent from 1970. For the first four months of this year, volume was down by 5.9 percent compared with last year and down by 3.9 percent from 1970. On U. S. Highway 89 east of Kanab, April traffic was down 8 percent compared with last year; down 6.4 percent Jrom 1970 and down 2.5 percent 'from 19G6. For the year to date, traffic was up .2 tcent over last year; up 24.8 percent from 1970 and up 33.1 percent over 1966. On U. S. Highway 89-A south' of Kanab, April volume was down 1.9 percent; up 19.7 Percent over 1970 and up 46-percent over 1966. For the year to date through April, volume was down .1 percent over last year; up 36.6 percent over 1970 and up 56.6 percent over 1966. Figures at the junction of Utah Highway 24 and Utah 95 near Hanksville show .3 percent less volume in April than in 1974, but an increase of 41.8 percent over the first four, months of this year compared with last. On U. S. Highway 89 north of Marysvale, April traffic was down 4.4 percent from last year, but was up 6.8 percent for the first four months of the year. A variety of patterns on a composite basis in the state slwwed increases of 3.6 percent on rural and 8.2 percent on urban interstate travel In the state for April compared with last year; 1.6 percent increase in primary and 3.5 percent decrease on federal-aid rural roads and a 1.2 percent decrease on federal-aid urban raids for April compared with last year. For the j ear to date, rural roads showed a 9 percent drop and urban roads a 7.5 percent drop on Interstate; 6.6 percent increase in primary and L7 percent decrease in secondary federal-aid rural roads and .5 percent decrease on federal-aid urban roads. |
