Show Escalante Chit Cha MY FAY ALVEY Our scanty rain storm cleared up with weather so cold folks had to turn the heat back on, nothing is growing except weeds. Someone must have a grudge against this area, the northern part of the State is practically swamped and we are almost dried up. Some of the sick are better, Mont Griffin called for someone to come and get him from the Panguitch hospital. Verge Spencer has made three trips to Panguitch to the doctor and Is feeling some better. Lorell Munson went to Salt Lake City to see a doctor about a strain suffered when he attempted to lift his safe, It really must have been loaded. Nelda accompanied him. The high light of last week was the celebration around the dedication of the air strip. The governor and the other officials did not come as their weather had them grounded The engineer, Hopper Knowl-ton and wife drove from Salt Lake City getting here after the service'' at the strip but in time to enjoy the picnic. Dale Marsh, County Commissioner, was M.C., Invocation was by Chase Shurtz, the Singing Mothers sang "Dear Hearts And Gentle People" and "Utah Trail." Sid Lester came to represent Senator Moss and talked briefly. Talks were giver by Mayor Billle Davis, former Mayor Jennings Allen. Commissioner Jim Yardley and Judy Kelly. J. Clyde t'pencer gave the dedicatory pra;er and the Singing Mothers -ang "The Battle Hymn of the Republic" after which Mayor Davis cut the ribbon and the crowd toured the building and grounds. Lunch was served at the North ward church under the direction of the Chamber of Com merce with Mohr Christensen, President. Barbecued beef, hot rolls, salads and the accessories, cake and punch was enjoyed by all. A dance at the gym at night with the Lamond Davis orchestra climaxed the event. Blake and Gurena Robinson got word that daughter Beth Jacobson of Montrose, Calif, had a premature baby boy, caesarian, and it died. Beth was in a state of shock and emotional stress so Gurena went to her. Ruth Baugh took her to Salt Lake City where she went by plane. Vernon Spencer, Areola Gates and Thelma Cottam were called to St. George where their father Andrew Spencer was hospitalized with breathing problems. He got better so they took him home and left him with Gen eal and family, and brought Is abell here for a change and rest. Carolyn and Vergene Porter took their youngest boy to Page and had his tonsils out. The Dale Lymans took son Troy to the doctor who put him on crutches. Millie Mcln-elly went north to get straightened out and came home with Orabell and John Weigle Vlda Harrison stayed with Mary Lyman while Millie was gone. Twtla Mclnelly and daughter Grena Kae are visiting in Salt Lake City. Paul Cardon came from St George and got his family. The Vic Cottams had Dianna and Jack Cloward and son here from Las Vegas Sandra and Bobble Porter and family are here from Mesa, iizona, Bobbie is remodeling tht home of his brother, Vergene Reeves and Laura Baker had word (continued Inside) ESCALANTE (continued irtm front page) from son Wllmer at Whlteman AFB In Missouri that they have a fine baby girl, she Is number two and they have one son. Reeves and Laura took granddaughters Julie Ann and Terace to Richfield to meet Laurel and return to Orem. Jan Li st on was chosen to represent this area at a Statewide 4-H Youth Leadership Conference at the Snow College In Ephraim. An election was held to choose four girls and four boys to form a committee to plan next year's conference. Jan was elected to this committee and with the others honored at a banquet and dance and Instructed that there would be meetings in August and March to plan Ihe agenda. Warren and Kathleen Wool-sey and two sons are home and glad to relax Warren graduated from the St. Louis University of Dentistry with a DDS and now Warren has the task of deciding where he wants to practice, find an opening and pass the exams of the State It happens to be located In. how can one relax with those weighty decisions. Kathleen and Thelma lost their voices. Warren tactfully suggested they may have talked too much. Ruth and Forest Alvey visited relatives in Wayne County Lynn Mclnelly brought Gama and two daughters for a visit. Pat Sorensen had her sister and husband. Bob and Shirlee Potter of Muskegon, Michigan, he drove in and they took him to Hell's Backbone and other terrifying places which he enjoyed but said he could not drive back over the Blues so Bob Sorensen drove their car and had Vernon Stowe follow him to bring him back Bill and Betty Nobes and two girls also of Michigan visited the Sorensens. Bill had an article describing this area published in the January issue of the Rock and Mineral Magazine, and it attracted the attention of numerous rock hounds who came to see for themselves Stan Haycock had son Doug and Barbara and family here Donnetta came for the weekend and took Neta and Janis back north, also took the Griffin slaters, Kelly and Crystle home Lola Zenz had some company; Luis and Myra Irons of Phoenix, Arizona, Mr. Irons gave the meat cutters some professional help with the beef they barbecued. Minerva Heaps and daughter Edna Sergeant visited here. A former Seminary teacher, Marion Davidson, his wife Joan and their seven children were here from Mesa, Arizona Visitors at the Frank Imlay home were Francis and Barl-ara, and Frank's brother, Ash-by. Don and Deann Heap and family went north where he waa to attend summer school Sox and Effie Spencer went to Vernal to visit family members. Delia Christensen and daughter Alice Ann were here for the weekend Dixie Mitchell took Janet Nelsen to Cedar City to ride the bus back to salt Lake City, Lonnle stayed with her Grandma. Kate Porter. Calvin Shurtz had his brother Ellis and wife Adelaide here from Salina, son Don was home, he had Nellyn Perkins of Panguitch with him and brought the folks some fish. When he returned to his job in Wayne County he took Jerry Taylor to visit his grandmother, Emma Forsythe The Hal Shurtz family were reunited a-gain and Hal got things to working: he and Kay Lynn came from north, Kim and Vlckl from Cedar City and Valeree from Bryce. Thais Griffin and girls went to Panguitch while Gene had the boys down the desert. Don Shurtz had a former room mate named Bud come to see him after he had gone. Jim and Lola Alvey were home for the weekend a little late as they missed the proper turnoff and wound up in Green River. Wanda Wilcock came again from Salt Lake City attempting to ahape us up. Kay and June Staples visited at the Blake Robinson home. When the Smith Alveys went north they left son Johnny to visit relatives. They put daughter Irene on the plane to visit Jerry Roundy and family in Hawaii. Mable Griffin spent a week in Richfield with Caroline Eyre. Festos Grffin and Dale Wilson and friends aro vacationing on Lake Powell. Thora and Lavar Munson were here from St. George, Ida Church from Arizona. Sunday was high council day, the North ward speakers were Lorenzo Griffin. Usher Spencer and Lorell Munson; the South ward. Thorley Johnson, Don Coleman and Berlin Osborn. When Helen and Chaae Shurtz went north for graduation servicea of David Ray they brought Susan home. Marion is working in a hospital in Washington. Dick and Mary Lyman came from Calif, for the weekend. The George Thompsons were here from Cannonville. June is a month of romance of weddings and honeymoons, also the month of roses, hurrah for our windy Junes! |
