Show FOREPAUUII WILL COME. No Truth "Whatever in Any Report to the Contrary. For several years past Denver has not been visited by either of the two big shows of the couutry the Adam Forepaugh nor the Barnum. Indeed, when thev were here they were comparatively com-paratively small affairs, in size no I larger than the largi-st that have been here since they were. They have been in a class by themselves, and have by agreement so divided the country between be-tween the Atlantic ocean and the Missouri Mis-souri river that thev did not come together to-gether in opposition. The smaller shows were, therefore, forced into the West and South, as they could not get paying patronage in the North and East. By reason of the lack of contrast, con-trast, the" little fellows have had things their own way this side of the Missouri and below Mason and Dixon'B line. When Adam Forepaugh died James E. Cooper vxas the only man possessing the capital and experience necessary to purchase the shows and perpetuate the name of Forepaugh according to the great showman's dying wish. Fearing that perhaps the public might distrust the ability of anyone else to carry on an exhibition of "such enormous magni- tude as the Forepaugh shows, he wisely wise-ly determined to settle the question at once anil for all by making the shows so muc!- larger and" better than they ever were when Adam Forepaugh was alive, that the public and press would at once recognize and acknowledge the fact. The Omaha World-Herald, Saturday Sat-urday of last w eek, did so in most emphatic em-phatic manner, and predicted that a show which was so big as to create a veritable sensation in the east would set the far western country wild, and any other name in connection with a big show would thereafter be laughed at in that country. Wiseacres in the East shook their j heads giavely and said that no man, Mr. Cooper or anyone else, could afford to carry such a tremendous affair through the country; it couldn't be made to pay. But it has paid, One week on the lake front, Chicago, brought in 3103,000, the larg-! larg-! est business ever done by a tented exhibition ex-hibition in the world at any time. Reports Re-ports received through the press every-j every-j where speak of the phenominal busi-i busi-i ness of the show s. Imagine, then, the j consternation of the small shows when j Mr. Cooper announced his intention of ! invading their stronghold and for the j li.-st time in twelve years exhibit the I Adam Forepaugh shows upon the j shores of both the Atlantic and Pacific ! ocean in one season. The small con- eerus shrieked in a frenzy to deter the I progress of I his Guhver of shows by J binding it about with their miarepre-; miarepre-; sentations and efferts to mislead the i public into thinking the Adam Fore-paugh's Fore-paugh's shows would not come. They finally succeeded in the minds of some who 'did not know that the Adam Forepaugh shows never change a date after it is announced. |
