Show Ordering Hi-i Men Ashore. San Francisco, Aug. l. L. W. Martinez, the aid-de-camp to General Montt, of the Chilean insurgent party, said to-day that Marshal Gard at San Diego had ordered Captain Manzen of the "Itata" to take all his men ashore until legal proceedings were over. The expense of this would be very heavy, and as the machinery of the" "Itata" has been unshipped for repairs, there is no danger of her miming away. General Montt has ordered Manzen not to obey the order unless the marshal brings soldiers to force compliance. He I -lays the marshal has exceeded his powers. A dispatch from San Diego says Captain Manzen denies the report that tlie Chilean ship "Maipo," which is said to have had a large cargo of arms and ammunition for Insurgents lias sunk. Instead, he says she is anchored in Iquique harbor. The report of her foundering arose from a wrong translation trans-lation of a Spanish message. |
