This interview is with Margaret (Meg) Grierson, formerly of Spanish Fork, now residing with her family in Springville. Grierson was the director for the 2007 production of "Seussicaj the Musical." She said directing is like raising a child. You may have 20 shows under your belt and still not have a clue what to do with this one. Casting the actors after auditions is her least favorite part. She said she has been rejected for so many roles she auditioned for, that it breaks her heart to turn anyone away, and cries for days afterward. Grierson said the director is the glue of a production—holding all the tech people, the actors, and the staff together and mediating among all the different opinions. Many things can and do go wrong on stage. In another show, the entire dress fell off an actress and an unsuspecting actor was "killed" when the blank in the gun went off at the wrong time. Grierson said "The most amazing thing about theater is the electricity between the performers and the live audience. It's exciting, terrifying, thrilling ... but always real and honest. Storytelling is the oldest form of creative expression. We can't sail the seven seas or fly to Neverland—but we can watch a play about it. Drama turns proverb into reality." "The community of Spanish Fork has benefited greatly from the contributions of SFCT and its countless volunteers. There's something positively magical about watching people come together to tell a story and celebrate life." When asked what she would tell someone interested in theater, she said, "You don't need any experience or degree to be involved in community theater.
