Show - N E W S Spanish Fork Coveting what matters most WEDNESDAY, OCTOBER 29, 2008 • B l l Canyon Larsen Courtesy photo DARE: Larsen Elementary's Fifth Graders have the weekly opportunity of learning from Officer Gordon. They learn about substance abuse and making good choices. Last week they had an opportunity they have looked forward to for a long time — seeing his police car! Students gathered around to see the ins and outs of his car, hear the sirens and learn about some of the technology inside of the car as well. Rebecca Guernsey with her classmates learns the details about Officer Gordon's car during their DARE learning time. Rees BUILDING A FUTURE: Miss Leber's preschool class has been learning about construction sites and how to build structures. They read "How to Build a House," by Byron Barton, that taught the steps of building a house. They reviewed the steps and talked about sequencing: First, put down the floor, then put up the walls, next put on the roof and, last, put on the door. In class they wrote down the steps as a shared writing activity to help them remember the correct order of steps. Then each child built their own house, using frosting for cement and graham crackers for wood. The houses were a great success! Pictured, left, is Trevin Steiger building a graham cracker house in Miss Sue Leber's Preschool Class, Rees Elementary. To kick off the Road to Success Reading Program, magician, Mike Hamilton, presented a high energy magic show, cojnplete with confetti and the Utah Blaze mascott, to the students of Canyon Elementary. During the program, Mrs. Angie Perkins, a fourth-grade teacher from Canyon, was surprised as she was called out of the audience to come up and be recognized as a Sam's Club's Teacher of the Year.
